Baseball scores and summaries

Post by basilrathbonejr »

Kansas City's eight game winning streak was ended by the Boston Red Bulls with an empathetic 10-1 drubbing of the A's in which the Red Bulls knocked around starter Jeff Schooler and Pablo Herrera out of the bullpen.

Washington and Los Angeles both continue to stage a stirring race but both teams lost and Kansas City came through with a 4-3 victory over Boston in game two of their series in Bean-town.

Kansas City scored four runs in the third inning to give Tim Neilsen amble support. Neilsen went 8 innings allowed 10 hits and three runs walked two and struck out three.

In that third inning catcher Ray Byrd singled to left field. Nielsen successfully bunted him to second base. Porter Schantz issued his only two walks over the seven innings he pitched to John Mathews and Greg Brock. Mike Jackson's double to left field scored both runners. Brock went to 3b. Jackson stole second. McCall popped out to short center field for the second out but Joe Knorr singled in two runs for a 4-0 Kansas City lead.

Boston cut the lead in half in the 6th inning on a single by Garrett Holmes, a RBI double by Jeff Blackwell. Blackwell scored on a single buy Benito Aguilar. Juan Torres solo homerun in the 7th cut the lead to 4-3.

Neilsen left after eight innings with the lead and Julio Canate protected that lead in the 9th for his second save.
