In the National League a loaded with talent San Francisco Seals team with a 22-10 record has been atop the NL for most of the season until a Montreal Mastadons team suddenly caught fire an has won nine of ten games to pull one game ahead of San Francisco by one game. The Masadons are led by two terrific hitters shortstop Randy Orwell (342 7 homeruns and 30 RBI and centerfielder Mike Scott (.331 6 homers and 23 runs batted in. Montreal is both deep and good posting 14 saves in 15 opportunities.

In the American League Washington and Kansas City are now tied for first with identical 19-13 records. Washington is engaged in a tough series with the third team madly contenting for first place. The Wimps dealt Los Angeles their third straight loss with a 5-2 win at home before a sell out uproarious crowd.

Washington entertained their fans with ten hits in the game scoring five runs.

John Guillen the winning pitcher is now 4-1. Danny Kinkade picked up save number nine in game one to put Tex Ryan in the winners circle, got a save (10th) in game two as well.

Washington scored three times in the 2nd inning on three doubles by Bill Miller, Kevin Carew, and Ribs Davis. Jesse Campbell contributed a run scoring double in the 7th as well.

After dish-ragging Minnesota 11-1 in game one behind Preston Becker's five hit game with his 8th homerun, Tampa's Andy Drop limited the Scotsmen to four hits over nine innings for a 4-0 win.

Dropo helped himself with a two run single in the big three run second inning for the winners.

Kansas City 2 Toronto 1

LLarry Barrett pitched eight innings allowed just one run on seven hits one walk and six strikeouts. Barret is 5-2 this season.

Julio Canate picked up his 4th save for Kansas City.

Ed Kimsey playing well of late singled to right in the 2nd inning. Steve Blue sent one to right for a hit as well putting runners on first nad third. With Elmer Riggan batting, Blue swiped second base. Riggan then flied out to deep left field for a sacrifice fly scoring Kimsey from third base. 1-0 Kansas City.

Toronto tied things up in the 3rd inning on a base hit to right by Johnny Schulte, a sacrifice bunt (3-4) by the pitcher Julio Kirlkland and a two out single up the middle by Darrell Lowdermilk. (1-1)

Kansas City got the go ahead run in the bottom of the 3rd and held the lead the rest of the way in a close pitching duel to the end. Kirkland issued a two out walk to John Mathews who scored all the way from first on a double to left field by Mike Jackson.
