The Kansas City Athletics are now 20-14 (.588) and share first place with the Washington Wimps who are fresh off takin two of three from the other member of the triumphant that has battled for first all season.

The A's scored all three of their runs in the top of the 2nd inning.

The first four batters all reached base. Mike Jackson singled to left field. Pitcher Billy Kreig (LP 3-4 7H 3R 5BB/3SO) walked both Joe Knorr and Tom Schumacher to fill the bases. Ed Kimsey singled home Jackson and Knorr and Schumacher socred on a two out single by Steve Blue.

Kansas City starter Denis Coleman did the rest shutting out the Fighters on six hits for eight innings (2walks 6 strikeouts) and Julio Canate took care of things in the 9th (5tjh save).

Washington 4 Oakland 3

Washington ended a one game losing streak with this 4-3 win over Oakland. Oakland dropped to 16-18 (.471) four games back.

The Wimps scored two runs in the 8th inning when Bill Willis hit a two run homer off Marco Rodriquez. It was the 6th of the season for Willis.

Kevin Carew hit his 5th of the season for Washington in the 2nd inning.

Wally Gilbert got the win (2-2) in relief of Johnny Colavito (5.2IP 7H 2R 7BB/6SO) who control problems caused him problems throughout.

Boston Red Bulls 6 Los Angeles Lemmings 3

The Red Bulls improved to 3-1 this season against Los Angeles 1-0 at home and 2-1 in LA.

J.C. Tremblay had possibly his strongest outing of the season going eight innings giving up seven hits and three earned run while walking four and recording six punch outs (all called third strikes) to even his record at 1-1.

Aaron Hrabosky picked up his 7th save in the 9th inning (two hits allowed, one strikeout).

Boston took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Garrett Holmes singled and scored on a triple by Jeff Blackwell. Blackwell scored on a one-out grounder to second by Hank Ratzer.

Alex Encarnacion increased the lead to 3-0 in the 3rd with a solo homerun (6th).

Craig Garner had a run scoring single for LA in the 4th to cut the lead to 3-1

Boston got that run back in the 5th on a run scoring infield single by Mike Howard. Scoring was Pedro Ordonez (walk-stolen base).

Joe Schwenk hit his 6th in the 8th for LA; 4-2.

The teams traded runs in the 7th and 8th for a final of 6-3.

Minnesota 5 Toronto 4

In a battle between two clubs at the bottom of the standings Minnesota got the win thanks to eight strong innings pitched by starting pitcher Pat Engle (seven hits four runs only two earned two walks seven strikeouts.)

Bill Lindeman homered for Minnesota in the 1st with one ou and two out off John Coffman.

Wynn Fallon hit his 5th for Toronnto in the 1st for Toronto with one out and no one on base off Engle.

Lary Cruz, starting pitcher for Toronto dropped to 0-6.
