ANAHEIM 10 BOSTON 9

10 Innings (1-0)

35,600 attendance at Boston's East End Park.

The opener of Anaheim's second road trip of the season was an offensive show from start to finish. Boston had nine runs on eleven hits and made one error, but thise figures were bettered by the Angles who came up with ten runs on ninteen hits and did not committ an error.

Talented twenty two year old right hander Karl Niles was the starting pitcher for Boston. Boston scored a run in the second inning off Nilkes. Chick Hamill singled and stole second (5th). Stan Turner doubled to right field with two outs to plate the run.

The Angels doubled their lead in the third inning. Second baseman Gordy Morman singled on a ground ball to centerfield. Jerry Johnson doubled to center driving in Morman.

Boston scored off Anaheim's starting pitcher for the first time in the third inning when Eddie Porray singled to lerft field. Ab Partee forced Porray at second. Niles, the pitcher, banted successfully advancing Partee to second base with two out. Bobby Derby's two out double drove in the run.

2-1 after three innings.

Boston had a big four run fourth inning that finished Maunders' day on the mound.

First off, Charlie Armbrister hit a solo homerun, his second, and the first allowed by Maunders this season, in 12 innings.

Maunders then walked Charlie Krakauskas and Jake Leister with one out. Ab Partee tripled in both of those runners.

Partee scored on pitcher Karl Niles' single. Maunders finished the inning but was lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the fifth and eplaced on the mound by left hander Chick Davidson. Maunders went four inings, gave up five runs on five hits, walked two and struck out two.

5-2 Boston after four innings.

Neither team's pitching was able to shut down the other team after scoring runs over the course of this game. Anaheim rallied immediately in the top of the fifth inning after Boston scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sam Cullop singled to right field. Morman singled just out of the reach of shortstop Krakauskas to cut Boston's lead to 5-3 sending Morman to third base. Morman scored on a ground out by Jerry Johnson.

Anaheim scored again in the sixth inning.

George Stallcup hit a solo homerun, his forst off Niles, the second allowed by Niles. Stan Turner vfollowed that with asigle to right nad John Stephenson doubled past left fielder Jake Leister scoring Turner to tie the game 5-5. Emmett Lanning replaced Niles with two outs in the inning and got the final out.

Just when Anaheim had fought from behind to tie the game Boston struck for another four run inning. Jake Leister walked, Eddie Porray singled and Al Partee hit a three run homerun off Davidson.

Chuck Perry replaced Davidson. Perry gave up an single to Bill Labine and a run scoring double to Charlie Armbruster to post the fourth run. 9-5 Boston and work to do for Anaheim.

They got started in the seventh inning off Ken Gaddy. Johnson drew a lead off vwalk. Rogalski singled to left. Hamill walked to load the bases. Stallcup doubled scoring Johnson, Rogalski and Hamill to make it 9-8 Boston going into the eighth inning.

Gary Russell pitched the eighth for Boston and gave up the tying run. Pinch hitter Frank Boyle reached on an error by third baseman Jesse Wengert.

Pinch hitter Walt Lord singled to right field sending Boyle to third base.

Lord was caught stealing.

Ricardo Allen grounded out to short but Jerry Johnson who had a second inning double, doubled again to tie the game 9-9 that sent the game into extra innings.

Anaheim won its first extra inning game in the tenth inning thanks to two unlikely sources. Closer Bobby Pavlas singled past Krakauskas with one out. Ricardo Allen doubled scoring Pavlas with the go ahead run.

Pavlas was really stretched out going three innings, including the bottom of the tenth inning, when he won for the second straight game.
