Washington takes a two game lead in the American League

The Senators added onto their lead because second place Boston saw Cleaveland come from behind to hand them a 5-4 loss. Boston starting pitcher Valmy Beare hit his first career homerun in the 2nd inning off Cleveland starter Bob Castillo. Castillo walked three straight in the inning to load the bases in front of the slugging pitcher.

Castillo drew a lead off walk from Beare in the third inning and scored on George Roofe's two run shot that cut the lead in half. Cleveland tied the game 4-4 in the 6th inning.

Singles by Bud MacFadden and Gene Kavanaugh with no outs put runners on first and third. After the trail runner advanced on an infield out two out a two out single by A. J. Tucker tied the game.

Cleveland came up with the winning run in the 7th off Jesse Shotton. George Roofe doubled and Bob Brantey singled driving in the go-ahead run.

Bruce Butland took over from winning pitcher (2-0) Jaime Dorscher (2.1 4 hits 0 runs) and he picked up his second save.

Washington 2 Detroit 1

The struggling Tigers dropped a close one on the road to Washington off to a surprising 9-2 start. Eddie O'Meara won his third straight to begin the season going eight inningd allowing seven hits and one earned run walked two and struck out five.

Detroit opened the scoring in the 2nd inning benefit of a double to left field by Derek Goodman who scored on a single by John Graber. 1-0 Detroit.

Washington tied the score in the 3rd inning when Craig Andersen Jim Delahanty opened the inning with singles putting runners on first and third.O'Meara's weak grounder advanced Delahanty to second and Tom Hanyzewski sacrifice fly tied the score.

It remained that way until the 8th inning when a solo homerun by John Murray (2nd) put Washington ahead 2-1.

Steve Kahle picked up his 6th save but not before his put three runners on base. Kahle walked Bill Hudson with one out but catcher Rod Alexander threw Hudson out stealing. Arnold Markland and Bob Lysander each singled but Ken Usher popped out to Alexander to end he game.

In other AL action New York down Tampa Bay 7-2 and Oakland took care off Minnesota 5-2.
