Boston 8 Detroit 0

Detroit suffered its six straight loss but this was the first time the Tigers had been shutout. The loss dropped them seven games behind the league leaders and at 5-10 into a tie with the Minnesota Lakers who have won two straight.

Lonnie Neagle (2-2) pitched a complete game allowed six hits walked one and struck out nine.

Jesse Sullivan hit his second home run this season in the 7th inning with two one and no outs off relief pitcherJack Berry fresh into the game. Joe Jackson also drove in a run in that inning with a single.

Boston scored three in the 2nd and one more in the 3rd as they took control early.

Minnesota 3 Yankees 1

The 5-10 Minnesota Lakers defeated the 6-9 Yankees.

Doc Sepkowski 1-2 got the win. Sepkowski worked seven innings allowed four hits and a single run walked two and fanned seven.

Oakland 5 Tampa Bay 4

Oakland built up a 5-1 lead and survived a three run 9th inning rally by Tampa Bay that came up one run short.

Alex Harding (5th) hit a two run homer in that inning.

Mike Cumberland had hit one earlier in the 7th for Oakland, his second and was one of three hits he had in the game. Joe Munoz also had a three hit game for the winners. Munoz scored two runs and drove in one.

Marsh Alexander (4-0) was the winning pitcher.

Washington 4 Cleveland 0

First place Washington took the rubber game of their series with Cleveland. Mike Dugdale won number four and lowered his ERA to 1.17 as he limited Cleveland to six hits striking out eight and walking one.

Joe Ryan and Joe Pennock got the final five out in the game.

All the scoring was done by the Senators.

First inning; Shortstop Craig Andersen reached on an error by shortstop George Roof and came in to score an unearned run on a single by Washington catcher Rod Alexander. 1-0 Washington

Third inning; Cleveland starter Don Lumwalked Hanyzewski with one out and John Murray's double off the right field wall scored him. 2-0 Washington

5th inning; Solo homerun by Hanyzewski (3rd) made it it 3-0

Anderson led of the 7th with a walk moved to third on a single by Mike Garrbella, and scored when Hanyzewski hit into a double play..no RBI. 4-0 Washington and that was the final score.
