Montreal, 16-9 (.640) has won three straight and now trails Colorado by one game.

The Expos picked up a game on Colorado when the Crayons dropped a 6-2 decision to the Chicago Cubs in the house the Wrigley's built.

Center fielder Rudy Wilson went three for three for Colorado in the loss.

Andy Pafko topped the Chicago thirteen hit attack with three hits in four at bats. Don Johnson (2nd) and Lenny Merullo (9th) contributed homeruns. Merullo hit a two run homer in the Cubbies five run 3rd inning and Johnson hit his solo homerun in the fourth inning.

Claude Passeau (4-1 3.71) went eight innings allowed ten hits gave up two earned runs walked two and fanned three.

Drummond (Oil Drum) Hammond improived to 3-2 on the seaon after having his best all around career game going 7.1 innings, five hits allowed, three runs, five walks and seven strikeouts. That was only half of his efforts in this game. Chandler went two for three with his bat.

Drummond, a lifetime .082 hitter is hitting .312 this season with a homerun and three runs batted in and one stolen base, most of that production coming in this game. Chandler singled to right leading off the fifth inning, stole second base and scored on a single by Mitch Reichardt.

Chandler hit a three run homerun in the sixth inning to put Montreal up 7-3.

Montreal scored two runs in the second inning when Harlan Pickett was hit by a pitch. Ed Brewster singled sending Pickett to third. Derek Heard got Pickett in with a ground out on the infield. Brewster scored the second run on catcher Fred Bench's doubled.
