Chicago 5 Colorado 4

First place Colorado dropped two of three in Chicago losing the rubber game of the series 5-4 in ten inning. The Crayons are now 0-2 in extra inning games and the team is 18-9 on the season.

Paul Erickson (1-1) got the win after pitching one inning of relief for Colorado (the 10th),

Chicago's starting pitcher Hank Wyse has a no hitter for five and two thirds innings. he hit Rex Miley with a pitch with two outs and Rudy Wilson broke up the no hitter with a single to right field.

Chicago built an early 4-0 lead with a run in the first inning on a Bill Nicholson single. The Cubbies added two more in the fifth inning when Frank Secory tripled followed up by singles by Stan Hack and Peanuts Lowrey

Colorado came back with two runs in the seventh to make it 4-2. Miley had a Run scoring single and a run scored on a ground out by Steve Zuber.

A two out two run homerun, the third and final hit off Wyse, by Bobby Sutcliffe tied the game 4-4 in the eighth.

Chicago won in in the tenth when Nicholson reached second base on an error in center field by Wilson and scvored the winning run on a single by Phil Cavaretta.

Montreal 4 Milwaukee 2

Second place Montreal (17-10) picked up a game on the Crayons by winning the rubber game of their series wit Milwaukee two games to one.

The Expos number one draft pick in the 1952 draft, Jaspanese import Usami Saotome, a 27 year old right hander with great experience in the Japanese League vistied the winners circle the first time this season (1-2) after six starts. Saotome had his best over all effort going eight innings giving uop just three hits and two runs (both earned), issing five walks and striking out seven in a maximum effort game due to the walks.

George Powell picked up his fifth save in nine appearances (six save chances) with a scoreless ninth inning. Powell has a 1.74 ERA so far.

The Expos seized the early lead in the first inning with some very aggressive base running. Mark Hisner singled and Buddy Mancuso walked. As Bill Givens struck out both runners executed a double steal. Catcher Herb Cort's throw to second to get the trail runner went into center field and Hisner scored and Mancuso went to third. Lenny Paige struck out Derek Heard to strand him there.

1-0 Montreal.

Milwaukee took a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Cort atoned for his error with a single and stole second base himself. Saotome issued two of his five walks, to Mike Edelen and Joe Madden, to load the bases with two outs and two runs (Cort and Edelen) scored on a throwing error by Mancuso.

Mancuso made up for his miscue as well with a lerad off triple in the fourth inning for Montreal. Givens and Griffen struck out but slumping Harlon Pickett singled in the run tying the game 2-2. Pickett then stole second base. Ricky Bailey doubled to left center field drove in Pickett with the go-ahead run to make it 3-2 Montreal.

Pickett added ta run to the lead in the 6th with his 4th homer of the season and that was the final...4-2 Montreal.

Pittsburgh 8 Arizona 3

Rod Silvestri won his third game in five decisions giving up three runs on seven hits over nine innings striking out eleven. Silvestri also starred with the bat driving in a run with a bases loaded walked in the second and two more with a single in the 3rd.

Mel Auerbach had thee hits drove in two runs and scored one for the winners.

Philadelphia 10 St Louis 3

Philadelphia dropped a 15 hit attack on St. Louis. Alex Wright drove in four runs with two hits a double and his 3rd homer of the season.
