Post by CT_Eagle »

1987 is the next HOF class up for a vote.

Rules for induction:

1. Must have 10 years of service time in the majors
2. Any owner can nominate any retired player, including those with less than 10 years.
3. A player will have 3 opportunities to be voted into the HOF
4. Must receive 2/3 of votes cast to be inducted

Here is this year's nominee. Contact me if you think someone else should be listed.

Jack McClure
Rookie of the Year - 1973, 9x All Star, 4x FOY, 601 Saves(6th All Time)

Voting will close on 10Apr18.

No vote here. 4.63 ERA is too high for me. He won Fireman of the Year in 1978 with a 6.20 ERA (must have been the steroid era)?

Man...I was all about sending the guy who's sixth overall in saves into the hallowed grounds because he's 6th ALL TIME!!!

Then I saw Boston's message and had a look at the all time blown saves leaders where Mr. McClure (Hi, I'm Troy McClure...also deceased) is ranked numero uno...and now I'm pivoting.

That's a no from the Stouts hall of fame voters.

Thanks for the time it takes to put this together Eagle!

Uh...No

How do you even save 40 games with a 6.20 ERA?

He should maybe just be in for comedic reasons.

Top three in 1978 NL Fireman of the Year voting:

NL Fireman W-L G SV BS IP H R ER BB SO WHIP ERA
Jack McClure 1-4 52 40 8 45 53 32 31 15 28 1.51 6.20
Earl Adlesh 3-4 94 35 4 93 88 34 31 22 64 1.18 3.00
Doug Thomas 9-4 84 30 3 105 65 20 14 31 77 0.91 1.20

Interestingly, 3rd place finisher (Thomas) won the Cy Young award that year. It seems like voter fraud to me. I'll notify the president.

This was another interesting vote.

6th all time in saves but as pointed out, his numbers were not very good achieving those 601 saves. Perhaps there was a low level of overall talent at the time.

This is a no vote for me.
