HOF Ballot - 1997

Post by CT_Eagle »

This is the 1997 Ballot for the HOF.

This year's class is a little thin with only one candidate.

Rules for induction

1. Must have 10 yrs of service time in the majors
2. Any owner can nominate any retired player, including those with less than 10 years. This is due to the many years in the past where there was no HOF voting
3. A player will have 3 opportunities to be voted into the HOF
4. Must receive 2/3 of votes cast to be inducted

Here are this year's nominees. Contact me if you think someone else should be listed.

Voting will close on 24Apr18.

Babe McGriff
1x CY Young Winner, 10x All Star, 1 WS Rings, 223 Wins

Owner Nominated Players
Alex Ralston
1x MVP, 10x All Star, 6x GG, 471 Career HRs (12th All Time), 1770 RBIs (9th All Time)

I'll vote for another dead guy

Babe McGriff

I'd also like to put another player up for a vote:

Alex Ralston - 471 HR (12th all time), 1770 RBI (9th all time). 6 GG awards, MVP 10x All Star (8 time starter). Career BA a bit above average @ .274, but a HOFer IMHO. Not a member of the Stouts, so I have no dog in this fight.

While I'd love to see another member of the Browns join the Hall, Ralston retired after the 2007 season, so should not be on the 1997 ballot.

I'll cast my vote for McGriff.

Scorp - There is already a member of the 2007 class in the HOF so I assume this class has already been voted on. I cannot know for sure because the old messages are gone now. I know Wildcat was adding obvious players without a vote. Since there is already a 2007 member, when I get to 2007 I will skip that class and go to the next class that does not have a member. As far as I know you cannot determine what year a player is inducted when looking at the site's HOF so it does not matter when I hit the "induct" button. If Ralston is elected I will place him in the 2007 class in the gallery.

Yeah, we could wait for 2007, but I argued at that time that Ralston should have been included or at least given a second shot at making the Hall.

Based on Eagle's approach, 2007 would be overlooked and Alex would once again be on the outside looking in...unfairly in my humble opinion.

My .02 shekels...

I should have added that that dude KILLED the Stouts every chance he got. I can honestly say that he single handedly beat us in a bunch of games early on.

OK, if Ralston is on the ballot for 1997, I'll cast my vote for both him and McGriff.
