DH

Post by rocker2 »

I'd like to see the use of the DH, if not universal, at least the option for a league to opt in. Thanks for your consideration.

Again, the DH. I am an advocate for the DH in this game. I know to some it may ruin the nostalgic purity of 1950's baseball, but then so is moving a team to Seattle, Arizona, or Colorado for that matter.

So many people have asked for the DH over the years. There are also many people against it. It would be a major change for Admin, involving a lot of re-written code, so it's extremely unlikely to ever happen. Especially if so many people don't want it.

Boy, do I both agree and disagree. Managing is way more fun, and more pinch hit opportunities without the DH. The problem is, that the sim doesn't know how to double switch, which is a common move in a real game. Sometimes you have an allstar starter sitting out for rest, who now is the best pinch hit choice, but he gets wasted. He hits and then is done, but if the game were tight, you'd want him to stay in and play defense. Obviously, this too would be a complicated programming change, but if Chris could pull it off, it would take the game to a new level.

Agreed, it certainly would. Many people have also asked for the double-switch over the years, and I don't remember anyone being against it. So you can see that if this hasn't been implemented, what chance would the DH ever have?

My top 5 list of enhancements (in no particular order) would be:

In game position shifting and double switches
Situational relief pitching (bring in a lefty vs lefty, or righty vs righty if...)
Baserunning settings vs. the + or - grades of the catcher or outfielder's arm skill
Minimum skill levels for draftees based on current age
Increase contact's effect on doubles

I prefer the DH IRL, but for this game it is better to not have. Just makes things more interesting, its already to easy to field a good hitting team DH would just skew things permanently in that direction. Double switches would be amazing.
