Kansas City 3 New York 1

Game 3 of 3

After the New York Maulers mauled them 10-4 in game two to tie the series one game apiece, Kansas City came back the staff's winningest pitcher, Chet Colbern (8-1) for a 3-1 win the series in the finale.

Colbern went 8 innings gave up five hits and 2 runs with 1 walk and an impressive 11 strikeouts to take game three and thew serioes two games to one.

The Beefeaters won dispite making five errors in the series that let in six unearned runs. Both teams each scored thirteen in the series. Constantly giving the other team over half their total out put will not work long.

The Maulers took advantage of a two base throwing error on second baseman Danny Bush in the 2nd inning that allowed Fred Carbo to reach with one oput. Carbo stole third. Carbo scored on a ground out to second by Bill Maddern.

1-0 New York.

Kansas City turned the game around in the bottom of the 7th on a three run homerun by Charlie Quinn (#8) off losing pitcher Gary Bostich (3-9 5.28). Bostich went eight inning gave up eight hits and three runs walked three and struck out four.

Jackie Hoerst picked up his 6th save with a scoreless inning of relief in the 9th.

Game one of three

The Beefeaters got a third straight outstanding performance from rookie Bobby Elliott (3-0). Elliott pitched his first career complete game giving up one run on four hits and withstood a career high six walks with five strikeouts.

Both Elliott and losing pitcher Graig Bostick engage in a scoreless pitching due for the fisr six innings. Cabrera had a four hit shutout going into the 7th inning when the roof caved in on him. Cabrera walked Charlie Witek with one out in the 7th. Charlie Quinn and Andy Ernage followed with consecutive singles to load the bases.

Greg Roche made his 8th pinch hit appearance this season and it was a memorable one. Roche, batting for shortstop Charlie Bergman, hit a grand slam homerun for a 4-0 Kansas City lead.

The B'eaters were not done.

Bob Wallaesa replaced Cabrera and was hit hard as well.

Wallaesa gave up a single to catcher Jack Walker. Elliott moved Walker to second with a sacrifice bunt (3-4). Dave Rudi singled to add on another run.

Hal Boze, the second pinch hitter of the inning for Kansas City, walked putting runners on first and second. Danny Burke singled in Rudi bringing in Rudi.

Jim Palmeiro replaced Wallaesa to get the final out.

Los Angeles scored a run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single by Dick Martin.
