BOSTON 4 NEW YORK 2

Boston takes series 3-0. Leads AL by two games.

Toronto defeated Los Angeles 5-3. Terry Tettlebach (3.1IP 1H 0R/OER 0BB/5SO) got the win (2-1) in relief of Harry Sosa who went 6.2 innings for Los Angeles being charged with three runs on eight hits and Art Butler closed out the win for Toronto for his fifth save.

Art Heimach (4) homered in the top of the first off Frank Wortham with one out and two on to open a 3-0 lead for Toronto and John Shupe homered with one out one on in the 11th inning off LP Bob Beckendorf.

Bill Brooks hit his 4th homer for Los Angeles in the 4th inning off Harry Sosa.

Seattle blasted Oakland 13-1.

Seattle has won four straight to reach 12-12. Detroit defeated Kansas City 3-1.

Kansas City has lost four straight and nine of the last ten games.

BOSTON 4 NEW YORK 2

Boston swept its series with New York three games to none.

Boston is now15-9 two games in front of Toronto (13-11) and three in front of Seattle, New York and Los Angeles all 12-12.

Boston took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of second inning when Buddy Kracher singled, stole second base scored on a single by third baseman Cliff Wise.

New York tied the gmae 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. George Young singled with one out and Ken Housie doubled with two outs driving in the tying run.

The game was tied 1-1 after four innings.

New York went ahead 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning. Loyd Schullstrom singled and stole second. Young was hit by a pitch (by Dave Lane) Jeremy Preston singled in Schullstrom.

Walter Rose took over from Lane after 5.2IP 6 Hits 2R/2ER 1BB/5SO.

Rose went 1.1IP 1H OR/OER OBB/0SO.

Mike Lee was hit by a pitch by Steve Bennett.with one out in the 7th inning. Pinch hitter Jim Glauber advanced the runner to second with a ground out to first ending his streak of eight straight hits in the series.

Jimmy Batista replaced Bennett. Albie Crowell singled off Batista driving in Glauber with the tying run.

During Crowell's next at bat that followed losing pitcher Jim Watson hitting Mike Lee with a pitch, Crowell planted Watson's third pitch (1-1 count) into the left field stands for a game winning homerun. It was Crowell's first homerun of the season.
