BOSTON 7 SEATTLE 5

Game two of three in Seattle between American League contenders Boston and Seattle was another close hotly contested contest.

Boston is now 5-3 against their archrivals. Seattle has scored more runs in the head to head match up outscoring Boston 36-34. Boston is4-1 in Seattle but only 1-2 back in Boston.

The BeanEaters are 17-12 on the road, 14-10 at home.

Both team had a three run homer in the first inning. Alex Flaherty hits his 8th with two on off Herb Fulgram, but Bob Pryor tagged Dave Lane for a three run shot, his ninth of the season to tie the score 3-3.

Pryor put Seattle in front 4-3 with his second round tripper of the game in the 4th inning off Lane.

Boston came back in the top of the eighth to take a 7-3 lead.

Pinch hitter Bryan Perez began the inning with a pinch hit single to center field, then stole second base (6th). One out later pinch hitter Bob Ritterman singled to right field driving in Perez. Mark Skowron drew a two out walk to keep the inning going. Jim Glauber doubled to send him plateward and Flaherty singled to leftfield driving in Glauber to finish off the scoring in the inning.

Pryor added another run batted in in the topof the eight to cut the lead to 7-4.

Boston used four pitchers in the game. Dave Lane started and went six innings giving up four runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Lefthander Bill Cruther was the winning pitcher (2-1) worked a scoreless seventh inning. Rookie Chris Hughson, called up to replace injured Walter Rose, made his debut and allowed one run on one hit with a walk, and Billy Taylor picked up his third save by finishing off a scoreless ninth inning.

Boston will go for the sweep in game three.

Chauncey Murray (3-6 3.87) will oppose Hub Gibson (2-3 3.72) for Seattle.
