BEANEATERS WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT

Boston leads American League by three games.

BeanEaters sweep Los Angeles.

Paul Pickett charged through Los Angeles for eight and two thirds innings allowed seven hits and three runs, all earned, walked two and struck out five before leaving with two outs in the ninth inning when Los Angeles rallied to score two of their three runs. Larry Hriniak came in to give up a run coring single past shortstop Greg Cruz, but then got Press Smith to ground out to Cliff Wise at third base to end the game. Hriniak now has 14 saves.

Boston never trailed in the game. They scored two runs in the first inning. Alex Flaherty walked walked with one out. Albie Crowell singled to right. Right fielder John Blethen got to the ball quickly and made a strong throw to third baseman Bill Brooks in time to get Flaherty sliding into the bag.

Buddy Kracher continued his hot hitting by crushing a homerun deep over the left field fense, his 5th of the season scorong Crowell ahead of him.

2-0 Boston.

Boston's bats came alive again in the fifth inning. Jose Nicosia singled but was caught stealing. Pitcher Paul Pickett singled on a ground ball that snuck through the infield into center field.Mark Skowron doubled to left center field past centerfielder Jeff Torgeson. Pickett scored on the play. Mark Indermill reached on an error by pitcher Dave Miller and Skowron scored on the error.

4-0 Boston.

Los Angeles scored a run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. Torgeson singled, stole second base and scored on asingle by Jose Stoddard.

4-1 Boston.


Boston scored their final runs in the 8th inning. Miller struck out the first two batters of the inning, Indermill and Cruz then walked Flaherty who stole second base.

Lee walked Albie Crowell and Buddy Kracher put the game on ice with his 5th homerun of the season making the final score6=3 Boston.
