Tigers take two from Baltimore to extend their winning streak to nine..

Baltimore's swoon continues .. losing streak to five....

Game one.. In 10 innings... Tigers 2 Birds 1

Deroit took a 2-1 lead in the firsat inning off Baltimore starter Roger Nossek.

Davey Santigo singled to right field, stole second, and scored on an emerging offensive force, Bill Harris's single to center field. Harris also was agressive on the bases, stealing second *(Detroit leads the Al in stolen bases with 144.. Detroit has the top six basestealers in the league and nine of the top twenty basestealers in the league; 10..Scarsella 24...2)..Santiago 20...3)..Siebler 19...4)..Stackhouse 13... 5)..Colborn 12...6)..Harris 12... 9)..Chambliss 15)...Sims 7...17) White 6.)

A two out single by Bill Stackhouse sent Harris across the plate. 2-0 Deroit.

In the second inning Baltimore came back to score a run on Bud Zamloch's single to center field cutting the lead in half.

2-1 Detroit.

Bill Snyder's 7th inning homerun, his 7th and the 9th off Johnny Ward tied the score 2-2.

Shortstop Orlando Chambliss put Detroit back on top in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two run homerun. Dode Pearce, aboard on a single, scored on the homerun.

Zamloch came through again for Baltimore again with a two run single to tie the game 4-4 off Julio Ewing.

Baltimore stunned the crowd in the top of the tenth inning by scoring the first run allowed by Ray Gillespie in relief during the winning streak (6 appearances). Joel Miller singled, advanced on a passed ball on Detroit catcher Dave Colborn, and scored on a single by Dee Wagner.

But Detroit, like almost every club on a roll was not phased. Harris, an emerging offensive force, walked and stole second...Scarsella singled to centerfield and Harris off at the crack of the bat scored easily to tie the game 5-5...Siebler reached on an error by third base Jim McMahon. Bill Stackhouse doubled in Scarsella scored the winning run.

Game two Detroit 10 Baltimore 0

Detroit scored ten runs on eleven hits and did not make an error. Baltimore had zero runs on six hits and also had no errors.

Eddie Falsey the losing pitcher 7-5 who had a .218 opponents batting average did not retire any of the five batters he faced as Detroit took complete command of this one early and Bil Ardoin, 8-3 this season and now 3-0 during the winning streak, shutout Baltimore on six hits walking two and exhibiting complete domination with fourteen strikeouts.

Detroit scored six runs in the first inning on a two run homer by Bill Harris (6th) a three run homerun by Bill Stackhouse (7th) and RBI double by Dode Pearce.

In the second Detroit added three more on a single by Harris, a stolen base, a RBI double by Scarcella and a two out RBI single by Colborn.

9-0

It became 10-0 on a sacrifice fly by Harris.
