Baltimore is in last place currently having lost eight straight after their ten inning loss to first place Minnesota. Baltimore and Boston share the cellar at the moment with identical 7-15 marks. Minneosta, on the other hand, is riding high. Aftwr finishing in the cellar last season the retooled and refurbished version of the Maulers has stormed out to a one game advantage over defending league champion Oakland.

Baltimore added a run in the 6th inning to go up 3-1 on a solo homerun by Kelvin Dowell (4th). It was also the fourth surrendered bu Juden this season.
Minnesota came back strong in the 9th toi tie the game 3-3. Catcher Hal Repoz singled and Fernando Hendley hit his 3rd of the season off reliever Lonny Barnes who did not retire either of the bastters he faced in the inning.
Minnesota kept the momentum and won it in the 10th.
Relief pitcher Pat Taylor walked Jim Rutherford. Josh Jones singled to right field sending Rutherforlkd to thrid base. Pinch hitter Wally Kepper, batting for the pitcher, Maddox struck out. Repoz flied out to rcenter fielder Greg Ruiz, but then with two outs Hendley came thriough again with a go-ahead single.
Lee Pitlock took care of the bottom half for his third save allowing one hit to Ray Turner who was thrwon out stealing by catcher Hal Repoz. Minnesota won 4-3, Their eighth win in the last ten games.

The Cy Young Award winner in 1950, Glenn Frey shutout New York on eight hits over eight and one third innings (four walks ten strikeouts) to go 5-0. Herb Pederson got the final two outs in the nith inning getting Milt Hutton to hit into a 4-6-3 double play.
Ray Edenfield (lp 2-2) deserved a better fate. Edenfield went eight innings giving up seven hits and five runs (there earned) one walk and eight strikeouts.
Leo Koppke had a big game. Koppke hit a solo homerun in the first, and singled and scored in the 4th on a one out single by Lee Rittenour.
2-0 Oakland.
In the 6th inning Oakland added two more on a two run double by Joe Walsh. 4-0 Oakland.
7th inning; Pitcher Glen Frey, a .098 hitter last season, is hitting .312 this season (5 for 16). led off with his first career extra base hit, a triple, and scored on a ground out by Eric Clapton. 5-0 Oakland.....final score.

Los Angeles cooled off Boston 7-5 onm the Red Hawks returned home to Fenway Park after taking two of three from Detroit on ther road.
Athree run 7gth inning powered the Losers to a 7-2 lead and they held on despite giving up three runs in the bottom half to win 7-5.
Don Naples hit his first homerun for for Los Angeles in the 4th inning.

Tampa made it look dim once again for the Tigers by taking a 4-0 lead early in the game off theTiger ace starting pitcher Bill Ardon (2-3 and on a personal two game losing sreak).
Ardoin lasted 6.1 innings allowed 8 hits 4 runs/e earned walked five, which was one of his problems, and struck out 6.
Tampa pushed across a run on two hits in the 2nd inning.
Mike Samuels singled, stoe second base, andscored on Tito Wilson;s single to right field.
1-0 Tampa Bay.
Tampa forged ahead 4-0 in the 3rd inning.
Ken Cook singled and Clint Toney reached on a two base throwing error by shortstop DODE Pearce. Ardoin walked Buck Orosco and Ray Washburn doubled into the right field corner scoring both Cook and Toney. Orosco wound up at third base. and scored on a ground out.
The middle innings saw Detroit come back and tie the game.
In the 4th inning Mike Harris got things going for Detroit with a single and a stolen base. Matt Siebler singled to left- center field but left fielder Mike Samuels got to the ball quickly and came up throwing to nail Harris at the plate!
Claude Cosman singled and Siebler slide home safely under the tag of catcher Joe Walsh.
4-1 now in favor of Tampa.
Detroit came up a three run inning of it's own to tie the game 4-4.
Pitcher Bill Ardoin got it started with a single. Left fielder Davey Santiago, back in the starting lineup and hitting, followed with another hit. Al Scarsella singled, but Ardoin runner like a pitcher who does not know the directions around the bases, who failed to go to third on Santiago long single, got a bad jump from second and was thrown out at the plate by who else, Mike Samuel (two assists in the game and four career outfield assists --B+ arm).
Jack Hill issued a critical second walk for him to Mike Harris with two outs to load the bases. Dode Pearce who got to bat because of the walk, doubled driving in all three of the base runners tying the game 4-4.
Right hander Steve Vail took over from Hill and got Mike Siebler to fly out to centerfield to end the inning.
Detroit finally took a 5-4 lead in the 7th inning.
Pinch hitter Bill Stackhouse, batting for Carl Sims, tripled with one out. Scarsella over anxious to drive in the run struck out on three pitches for the second out putting it squarely on the shoulders of Mike Harris to get the run in with a hit, which is what the center fielder did, a single to left field.
Steve Vail (LP 2-2) was done (2 IP 2H 1R 2 strikeouts).
John Henry, another right hander, replaced him and face only one batter, Dode Pearce getting him to pop out to shortstop with a dandy change up.
5-4 Detroit after seven innings.
Matt Siebler (3rd) made it 6-4 in the 8th with a solo homerun off Gene Guillen. it was the first homer given up by Guillen.
6-4 Detroit.
Ray Gillespie made it 8 saves this season with a scoreless ninth inking.
