Post by lgcrowder67 » Sun Oct 29, 2017 4:51 pm

The American League race got a little closer with the developments over the last two games. Minnesota edge first place Kansas City 5-3 at home.

Former Seattle Mariner Jake Martinez (5-1) picked up the win in relief as the league's top closer George Fernandez blew his fourth save in 19 opportunities.

Pretzel Russo hit a walk off three run homerun off Fernandez before a celebratory sell out crowd in Minneapolis. Russo had five runs batted in the game including a RBI infield single in the first inning.

Last place Boston unleased some frustration on Detroit in the form of 13 runs on 14 hits. Ray Lake (3-1) was the pitching beneficiary of all the runs.

Bernie Hudson's 9thof the season was 6th inning grand slam odd Les Nordhagen. Bill May added a solo homer, number 6 for him, for the winners in the 8th inning.

Charlie Easter homered for Detroit in the losing cause.

Baltimore 4 Washington 3

Washington has lost eleven straight and is quickly sinking like a rock.

Seattle at Chicago

Game one featured two teams that were both coming into the series.

Game one went to the home team, Chicago 3-2 in 14 innings. Seattle fell to 3-4 in extra inning. Chicago is unbeaten during free baseball time improving their record to 4-0.

Right hander Ewald Breeden started for the Mariners and went 7.1 innings allowed one run on six hits had three walks and struck out ten only to get a disappointing no decision, his second.

Leon Presley's two run homerun in the bottom of the eight off Roy Grand tied the game sending it into extra innings.

Alex Wehde homered leading off the bottom of the 14th for Chicago to give the home team a walk off celebratory win.

The Seattle bullpen which has been picking up wins ( 4-1 over last ten games) but blowing saves (ranks 4th in blown saves with 7) got a make over with the expensive addition of seldom used but very talented right hander Johnny Meyer from Minnesota.

Seattle gave up its top two draft choices plus two outfield prospects in Bill Sperring and George Converse and veteran reliever Milt Anderson.

Seattle 11 Chicago 5

Winning pitcher Ty Jorgenson (2-5) gave the Seattle bullpen the day off by going the distance giving up nine hits five runs allowed four walks and had five strikeouts.

Guy Morrison took the loss after he was bombed for nine runs on nine hits in the 7th inning that turned a 2-2 game into a 11=2 rout.

Seattle sent 13 batters to the plate,

Gary Davis had four hits for Seattle singled twice in the big inning. Catcher Buck Velezquez pinch hit in the 7th and wound up three for three in the game with two runs batted in.
