Beefeater Baseball game story of fourth straight win

Post by jacktoast »

KC 3 NY 1

Mark Shepherdson, from Red Butte, Wyoming, said he got all the pressure of pitching a no-hitter or a shutout out of the way on his fourth pitch (2-2 count) to Mike James, who countered by saying that he got all the pressure of hitting his career high 7th homerun out of the way then as well.

With that out of the way, Shepherdson went on retire the next 19 straight batters. That streak was broken up in the seventh inning, when Bob McDonnell doubled with one out. In the eighth inning, the last for Shepherdson, Fred Carbo reached on an error by catcher Roy Gardner.

Jackie Hoerst closed out the game facing four batters in the 9th. Tomy Wera had a one out double but was left on base by McDonnell, who flied to center field and John Maas who ended the game with a ground out to newly acquired shortstop Mike Peraza.

After James hit his solo homerun in the top of the first, Danny Bush doubled and Charlie Witek homered to give the B'eaters a 2-1 lead.

They added to that in the 2nd inning when Andy Ernaga singled, moved up on a ground out and scored on catcher Jack Walker's single.

The win was the fourth straight for Kansas City.

Note; Are there any Charlies available for Kansas City to acquire.

They have had VERY good luck with players with that name so far. They haveoutfielders Charlie Quinn batting .314 with 7 homeruns and 33 runs batted in and Charlie Witek, who plays center foeld and right filed but rarely at the same time, is hitting .354 with 3 homeruns and 34 RBI.

In addition to those two the Beefeaters have Charles (Shanty) Radcliffe, the third catcher batting .167, currently in AAA, Utility infielder Charlie Bergman the back up at second and shortstop, batting .221 with 8 RBI. and infielder Charlie Willis at AAA.
