Gerbach pitches one hitter Tampa Bay goes over .500

Post by basilrathbonejr »

Manny Heiser of the New York Union in the Bob Boone League no hit the Detroit Tigers as NY defeated the contending Tigers 4-0.

Tampa Bay 5 Washington 0

This league had its near jewel as well as Trever Gerbach painted a master piece against the Washington Mobsters 9-0. It is merely a close but no cigar because of the evil villain Clyde McConnell, Washington's shortstop.

McConnell lead off the game with a single. Gerbach retired the next three batters in routine fashion (Fly out, two K's) in what would seem to be just another run of the mill inning with a runner left on base. Gerbach would walk four over the next eight innings but allowed no more hits.
The walks were to Fred Herrera with one out in the 2nd, then a walk to that villain McConnell in the 6th and he had the audacity of stealing second before he was left on again. Bob McClure walked leading off the 7th. Gerlach got Herrera to fly out and Gil Dahlgren to hit into a double play.

Gerbach retired the next six batters for his second career one hitter.

The Devil Rays scored nine runs on fourteen hits.

Tom Krause lead off the 1st inning with a single and stole second base. Neil Leheny singled in the run. 1-0 Tampa Bay.

The Devil Rays added to that lead in the second on singles by Bill Hudson, Bobby Alexander and Eddie Howerton. 2-0 Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay kept the train rolling in the 3rd scoring three times on a solo homerun by Gary Bittker (solo, his 14th), and a two run homerun by Alexander, first of the season and the third of his career.

5-0 Final

====================================================

The free wheeling Baltimore Blue Crabs have woven a splendid 24-7 record for the season. Baltimore defeated Minnesota 4-1. Winning pitcher Roberto Clemente is now 6-0. Jim Smith and Tom Abstein both hit the 6th homerun of the season.

LA 6 Kansas City 3

Detroit 8 Anaheim 2
