Jazz. Samba. Did you know that...

Post by rich45 »

“Getz/Gilberto” (album) sold more than 2 million copies and “The Girl from Ipanema,” released as a single with Astrud Gilberto the only vocalist, became an all-time standard, often ranked just behind “Yesterday” as the most covered song in modern times. (https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/06/06/ ... a-dead-83/)
Astrud died this week at 83.
I love Jazz (my father's son) and Samba might be my favorite form.

Trying to upload this but have given up after several tries.

Not in your league but was intrigued by this subject line ... just heard on a podcast yesterday that Astrud was not a singer - she was an interpreter in the studio so the other singers could communicate with the recording engineers.

They asked her to sing the English lyric version as she was the only female in the studio who spoke English. Recording went on to sell over 5 million copies!
