Highlanders go Insane~

Post by LTJaeger »

After scoring a whopping 23 runs against the Texas Oil Barons, the NY Highlanders came back the next day with.....

....27!!!

I've never seen a team score 50 runs in two games. Cy Corey went off in the second game for 5 hits, 4 HR's, and 9 RBIs.

The offense continued in game three of the series with the Highlanders adding another 10, for a whopping 60 runs in the matchup. The Oil Barons responded with 11 runs of their own to salvage game three.

Boxscore of Game 1 can be seen here:

That is indeed insane. This would beat the MLB record for runs scored by a team in consecutive games by one run. The Boston Red Sox plated 49 runs over two games against the St. Louis Browns in 1950, taking the first game by a score of 20-4 and the next 29-4. That Red Sox squad scored 1,027 runs on the season and slashed .302/.385/.464. They remain the last team to hit .300 for a season. In the 29-4 game, Ted Williams hit two home runs, as did 1950 batting champion Walt Droppo (.354). But Bobby Doerr stole the show with three long balls and eight RBI. Nobody hit four though!

By comparison to the Red Sox, the Highlanders are at .267/.335/.425 on the year, making this feat all the more improbable. Strong work!
