NY Highlanders all-time great Paul Schaller entires the final series of the year with 2,997 lifetime hits. While my team is long eliminated from contention, the season has been excited in tracking him on his quest to 3,000. He's had a solid season at age 37, with 26 HRs, 109 RBIs and a solid .284 batting average. A far cry from his routine 30+ 115+ runs scored/RBIs 200 hits seasons for over a decade, but a nice swan song to his career. I would like to see him get those three hits, and retire while he's still a potential all star.

He is an absolute no-brainer for the HOF with 5 MVPs, 12 AS selections, a career line of .914/.384/.530/.318 on 458 HR and 1,683 RBI. Best of luck on the quest for 3,000!

Good luck reaching the 3000 hit mark. Hopefully Schaller can be productive for another season or 2.

Schaller fell one hit short....
...but...in what was probably his final game, his teammate and future HOFer Lyman Golvin hit a grand slam HR en route to a 2-hit, 5-RBI game, with career totals of 466 HRs and 1823 RBI, resulting 13 all star teams. Schaller and Lyman were among the greatest 1-2 punches of all the teams I've managed.

Hopefully Schaller makes it back next season. Would be a shame to fall just one hit short!
