NL 3-way tie/play-in games!

Post by acnunnally » Thu Jan 09, 2020 6:07 am

Amazingly, after 162 games, three teams -- Brooklyn, Milwaukee, and Montreal -- have tied for second place in the NL, resulting in a 3-way series of play-in games. Each of the three teams will play the other two once, and the team with the best record will earn a playoff spot. In the event of each team going 1-1 in its two-game set, head-to-head records will be used to break the tie.

Weirdly, if you look at the schedule of these three games, ABE seems to think that they will all happen simultaneously (impossible in the real world) and with the same starting pitcher for each team in each game (also impossible in the real world). I think this is a glitch with the SimD programming, which presupposes one date/time for what is normally a one-game play-in between two teams that have tied. This is good for whichever team ends up getting a playoff spot in that it won't have to burn two starting pitchers going into the NLCS.

Best of luck to the trio of teams vying for the spot, and congrats for a dogfight of a season getting there!

Looks like ABE sorted itself out, and there were different starters in each game. In any case, congrats to all the teams and Milwaukee for winning the tiebreak of tiebreaks based on regular season head-to-head!
