It's August and a Boston player is currently hitting .397

We've never had a .400 season, and I very much doubt Pointer has a chance at .400. However, .350 and above is good enough for Top 20 All-Time and I like his chance of finishing around there. Nick Hendon holds the record with a .383 average from 1951. Willie McGee's 2 .363 seasons (1960 & 1965) deserves respect as well especially since the 1st few years of each Dynasty League (1950-1952) all tended to produce funky extreme stats that weren't reproduced once the league talent became more evenly distributed.

The other big IF is whether Pointer can stay healthy to make it to 3.1 Appearances/Game. He's only managed to qualify in 2 of the 5 seasons he's been a regular starter because of his injuries and D- Health.

2 weeks later:

Pointer's 11th overall in AL OF voting

So yeah, not such a great finish for Pointer. To be completely honest though, his near .400 average was really the only thing keeping his season special.

As for batting averages, the race for the batting title doesn't even look safe anymore:
With 9 games left:
1. Pointer (.356)
2. ROY Maddison Petit (.345)
and the Houston guys
3. Harnisch (.342)
4. Medeiros (.341)
6. Burks (.330)
7. Thomas (.330)
9. Patterson (.326)

As for #5, Bethke, he looks like he has taken Pointer's spot as the inevitable MVP runner-up to the eventual winner. Runner-up rather because of Cleveland's playoff berth, rather than Bethke having a worse season than Avila. Bethke's come a long way from being an automatic out back in 2019 & 2020. :D

Well done. Congrats on the #2 single season batting avg. .367. That is awesome.
