Database Failure

Post by Admin »

We had a database failure overnight during a routine rotation of box score data tables. Games should have halted but they did not. This resulted in just over a thousand games being played where the games were played, statistics and standings updated, etc... except no play-by-play information was stored.

For most leagues, this represents a single game date; for the faster leagues it represents up to 16 game dates. Trial leagues were unaffected, as they are in a separate database; playoff games were also unaffected as they use different play by play tables.

The choice I have now is to attempt to back out the played games, which would be a manual, potentially error prone process that could take the site down for days, or move forward and accept that the play by play will not be visible for games played today between 1:54AM and 10:30AM. I think I am going to have to move forward with this morning's play-by-play not visible; I may at least be able to make the box scores available.

I am working to bring the games back online now, then catching up the games missed while games were turned off between 10:30 and when I bring them back up. Thank you for your patience.

Chris - Not sure about other leagues, but go the three I'm in the standings were not updated, though statistics seem to have been. Strangely the Games played stat for teams doesn't seem to be updated, but perhaps that's tied to the standings? Player Games Played seem to have been updated.

Thank you for catching this! The standings are catching up now, I am checking on the team stats.

Make-up games for the missed games have been scheduled over the next couple of hours; some have already been played. The box score page will now display the box scores at least for the games without play-by-play.

Thanks I am sure most of us have no problems with missing a few games "play by play".

I am listed as logged in but can't access the actual game pages. May have been as result of the hack.
