Oakland has begun the season by reeling off sixteen wins in seventeen games. Kevin Cashman (2-1) was the winning pitcher. Cashman went eight strong innings giving up no runs on three hits and three walks recording eight strikeouts.

Good defensive plays by shortstop Eric Baker and centerfielder Billy Dittmer helped keep Cashman from any trouble along the way.
