They call him The Streak!

Well with apologies to Ray Stevens, we have had some streaking going on in the American League.

The Oakland A's were able to extend their second winning streak of the season to six games and they needed to to stay four games in front of Seattle who clocked in for their ninth in a row to stay in the red hot streaking club for yet one more day.

The A's have had a long rivalry with Compton's Senators, and this series did end in a sweep, but in no way was it easy, or not hard earned.

The first game ended with the A's took an 8-4 win to the house. Al Newkirk (4-0) got the win saved by closer Johnny Kingman.

The second game was a 1-0 combined shutout for Kevin Cashman (2-1) and closer Johnny Kingman.

So Oakland would be looking for another sweep and the Senators were in no mode to roll over and give it to them.

Young Red Faber was given the chance to stop the bleeding for the home team. Faber was outstanding, going eight innings, but others have done that as well and came out on the shrt end of the score in the end. Faber allowed four hits and two runs, was wild walking six and striking out five.

Cherokee Fisher worked three innings after the game was not settled in nine and took the loss, 0-2.

Joe Sullivan started for the A's and he lasted just six innings giving up four hits and three runs walked four and struck out five.

It was the Oakand bullpen that earned the win for Oakland. Clyde Hartman, Clay Lambright and Johnny Kingman shutout Washington over the last five innings without a hit. Lambright who went one inning walking two batters got the win (1-0).

Oakland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

CF Bill Woodward tripled leading off the game. Eric Baker walked. Dedrick struck out for the first out. Bob Bailey shot a laser like single under the glove of diving third baseman Duke Sims Jr for an RBI.

Bailey stole second and went to third on a throwing error charged to catcher Duke Sims.

Fred Crawford walked, but was caught stealing. Sammy Hale grounded out to second to end the inning.

Washington tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the second. Sim walked...SimsJr struck out...Gorman Thomas hit a two run homerun.

The Senators scored another run in the third inning to go in front 3-2. Wil Cordero singled, stole second base and scored on a single by Steve Christmas.

After that inning the offenses both went into thedeep freeze. Oaklan'd bullpen would not allow another hit in the game after the seventh inning. It would not have mattered except that Oakland tied the game in the top of the ninth inning against Washington closer Cherokee Fisher.

3-3 after nine innings.

In the 11th inning Dedrick singled past shortstop Gorman Thomas. tripled. Washington brought the defense in to cut down the run at the plate. Fisher struck out a hot hitter in Steve Sullivan.

Slumping Joey Brede lifted a fly ball to left field deep enough to score Crawford.

Dedrick opened the 11th with a single past shortstop Gorman Thomas. Bailey advanced the runner to second with a ground ball to first base. Fred Crawford singled to right field driving in the go ahead run, stole second base, then stole third base and scored very leisurely on Mark Sullivan's two run homerun, his 2nd.

Johnny Kingman again came marching in for his 11th save and the sweep was completed. Kingman had saves in all three games.
Oakland is an amazing 17-1..the best any team of mine has ever done.
