OAKLAND 3 MINNESOTA 2

10 INNINGS....Oakland is 3-0 in extra inings...Minnesota is 2-2.

At C.O. Finley Memorial Stadium

Oakland starting pitcher Dave Terlecky went eight innings for the fifth time in six starts this season, but failed to figure in the decision when Johnny Kingman proved himself to be human after all by blowing his first save chance of the season after 12 straight successes.

Terlecky logged 8 innings, gave up just three hits over that span. Terlecky allowed a one out first inning single to Newton Hawke, a solo homerun to Jim Head (5th) in the second that put Minnesota ahead 1-0.

It was the 3rd gopher ball allowed by Terlecky in 45.1 innings pitched this season. Opponants are batting just .196 off the ace right hander.

After the homerun Terlecky retired nine batters in a row before he walked fellow pitcher Ron Donovan leading off the sixth inning. Dave Willits grounded into the fist of threedouble plays turned by the Oakland infield to ward off any further threat.

Oakland scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Mike Pena singled with one out, stole his league leading 11th base, and scored on a two out single by Clyde Dedrick. Derick stole his second base of the season and scored on a single by veteran second baseman Sammy Hale.

Walt Jones led off the seventh inning with the third and final hit allowed by Terlecky. Another double play started by shortstop Eric Baker cleared the bases.

Johnny Kingman came into the game in the ninth inning looking for his 13th save but instead was charged with his first blown save of the season. Kingman walked Newt Hawke with one out and consecutive singles by Walt jones and Mike Buelow tied the game 2-2.

Minnesota had a baserunner in the top of the tenth when Clay Lambright walked Jerry Stephenson. Lambright got Hector Petzel to ground into the third double play of the game for the Oakland infield. This one was started by veteran second baseman Sammy Hale.

In the bottom of that inning Joey Brede singled and scored the winning run for the second straight game on a pinch hit double by George DiPino.

Lambright 2-0 got the win.
