Oakland 8 Minnesota 2

Post by basilrathbonejr »

Joe Sullivan, the Oakland Athletics number five starting pitcher, has put together a very good season for himself; a 5-0 record with a 2,20 ERA.

A converted reliever, Sullivan has started eight games, completed one, allowed 14 earned runs on thirty six hits and seventeen walks, struck out 54 in 57.1 innings pitched. Sullivan went six and a third innings in the game, gave up two runs on four hits walked three and struck out eight.

Sullivan gave a solo homerun in the first inning to Dave Willis hit his third of the season, the 5th allowed in 57.1 innings by Sullivan this season.

The A's did not trail for long. The much maligned offense exploded for five runs on four hits. Eric Baker, the lead off batter, singled to right field. Art Mlicki walked Lee Pagliaroni. Ernie Morton and Jack Cassini followed with run scoring singles.

Joey Brede reached on a two base error on third baseman Johnny Starr. Morton scored on the play and Clyde Detrick capped off the scoring in the inning with a two run double giving Oakland 6-1 lead.

Eric Baker added a ninth inning homerun for Oakland, his third.

Larry Magnason, the winning pitcher in game one, and Clay Lambright tossed two innings to finished the game.

Oakland is now 31-13 (.705) and leads red hot Seattle who has a eight game streak going by one game.

*Feeling better now. Time to get back to our game.
