Toronto loses 16th straight

Post by basilrathbonejr »

Washington 2 Toronto 1

Losing streaks go two different ways in baseball and not all long streaks are winning streaks. The longest losing streak in the American League is current and belongs to who lost its 16th straight game. Toronto, now 11-35, was held to one run on five hits by Washington's Denny McLain (WP 6-4).

McLain went eight innings and gave up one run on five hits before handing off to Ugueth Urbina in the ninth for his 9th save. The win was Washington's third straight win leaving Compton's Senators with a 21-25 record, twelve games behind Oakland.

Toronto starting pitcher Julio Ferrell gave up two runs on seven hits over seven and two thirds innings but took a loss to drop to 1-7 on the season.

Washington to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Wil Cordero walked, stole second, and scored on a double by Duke Sims Jr.

Toronto tied the game on Pop Williams solo homerun in the 2nd inning.

Jimmie Foxx decided things with his 9th of the season for Washington in the 7th inning.

FINAL 2-1 Washington.
