Oakland Washington...game one

Kevin Cashman, of Oakland, and Red Faber, of Washington, each went the distance in game one of a three game set between the two teams. Oakland in desperate need of wins got what they needed from the thirty five year old veteran lefthander.

Cashman (6-3) gave up nine hits and one run, (unearned), walked four and struck out six.

Faber gave up tewn hits and six runs, four earned, walked four and struck out six to fall to 3-1.

Faber allowed a run in the first inning on a triple by centerfielder Billy Dittmer and a run scoring ground out by shortstop Eric Baker. 1-0 Oakland.

Outfielder Lee Pagliaroni, batting .344 since being acquired from New York in July, was the hitting star of the game.

First, Pagliaroni hit his third homerun of the season, in the fourth inning, off Faber. It was the first career homerun allowed by the twenty three year old left hander in 43 innings pitched.

2-0 Oakland.

Pagliaroni doubled to centerfield leading off the fourth inning, advanced to third base on a bunt by the pitcher, and scored on a single by Joey Brede with two outs.

3-0 Oakland.

Washington put a run on the scoreboard in the same inning when Roberto Clemente reached on an error by centerfielder Bill Woodward and Faber helped himself with a run scoring single.

3-1 Oakland.

Oakland iced the game in the eighth inning when they sent three runs across the plate, Bob Bailey singled and stoile his 11th base of the campaign putting him in scoring position for hot hitting catcher Keven Hodges run scoring double. Veteran Sammy Hales drew a walk from Faber to put two runners on. A passed ball on catcher Duke Sims Jr., advanced the runners to second and third. After Pagliaroni struck out both runners scoredon a two base throwing erro on second baseman Jimmie Foxx.

6-1, the FINAL in game one.
