The new owner was rewarded by his team with a hard fought come from behind victory to celebrate the ownership change. The Patroits fell behind 1-0 in the first inning when Minnesota starting pitcher Jose Hajek walked three batters and allowed a single by Steve Wiltse. Hajek escaped the bases loaded dilema by getting Joe McCrabb to pop out to fist baseman Daneil Strands to strand three in the inning.
In the Minnesota half of the inning Harry Joyce, the Detroit starter allowed a lead off double to Dave Willis and a one out game tying single to Walter Jones.
Jones reached base in the sixth inning after forcing Newt Hawke at second, stole second and scored on a one out single by Rod Llenas to put Minnesota in front 2-1.
Hajek (6-6) settled down after the first inning and went eight innings for the win scattering five hits walking three and striking out three.
Billy Dooley (3rd save) pitched the ninth to finish it off with a win for Minnesota.

Cleveland 8 Washington 6
Cleveland (28-33) is hot again having won seven of their last ten games. They faced of with the Washington Senators, who are not hot right now, having dropped eight of their last ten, and Cleveland did not waste the opportunity to kick a team while it was down, pounding the listing Senators 8-2.
Both teams swung the bats well in the game. Washington recorded six runs on fifteen hits, but were outdone by Cleveland's eight runs on thirteen hits.
Dizzy Trout took the loss dropping to 7-7 after allowing seven runs on ten hits over six innings.
Budy Gearheart (4-0) was the winning pitcher in relief. Gearheart pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief of Mike Harper. Harper did not survive the second innings after getting tagged with five runs on six hits.
Fred Crawford hit a three run hoimerun off Trout in the bottom of the fist inning to get Cleveland gong early but Harper was ineffective.
Steve Christmas hit a solo homerun off Harper in the first inning. Washington scored three more runs in the 2nd inning on a single by Duke Sims, a double by Jimmie Foxx, and a two run homerun by Happy Iott (8th), for a 4-3 lead.
Then after Cleveland failed to score in their half of the second inning Washington added a run on to the lead in the top of the third inning when Foxx singled to bring Harpers efforts to a half and Gearheart into the game. Gearheart walked Happy Iott, the first batter he faced and Roberto Clement put Washington ahead 5-3 with a run scoring single.
The back and forth scoring continued in the bottom of the third inning, when Cleveland erupted for three straight hits. Two singles, both to centerfield with one out, by Dave Conway and Bob Hewitt produced the first run. Hewitt stole second base and scored on a double by Fred Crawford to tie the game 5-5.
Trout kept the game tied by striking out the next two batters, McGaffigan and Mueller.
Cleveland took the lead 7-5 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
John Whitten doubled past the first baseman Hosken Powell. Pinch hitter Greg Rautzhan tripled in Whitten and Rautzhan scored on a sacrifice fly ball hit by Chance Clift.
Iott had a run scoring single in the 5th inning and Crawford finished the scoring in the game with a RBI double off Foster Edwards in the 7th.
Craig Butler pitched the final two innings for his 12th save.

Los Angeles 3 Toronto 2
Los Angeles managed to squeeze by last place Toronto to remain in foirst place with a 3-2 victory. Winning pitcher Barry Barnes (6-4) went eight shutout innings (four hits five walks) and seven strikeouts but saves leader Darryl Stargell gave up a pair of runs in the ninth to make it interesting before secoring his 22nd save.
Luckless Chet French dropped to 1-13. French toiled for eight innings as well giving up seven hits and three runs, two earned waked five and struck out two.

Oakland 4 Seattle 3
Oakland began a big three game series in Seattle with a 3-2 win.
Al Newkirk answered the call for a stopper going eight innings allowing just one run on five hits, scatted five walks and struckout a half a dozen. Newkirk improved to 8-3.
Johnny Kingman rested for five days because of a tired arm was fresh and a bit rusty in his return giving up thwo hits and two runs in the ninth inning before he secured his 19th save for Oakland.
The game was scoreless for the first four innings. Seatrtle left two on in the fist inning. Dax Jordan and Joe Burdette had consecutive singles to put runners on the corners with no one out. Burdette was picked off (caught stealing) for the first out. Wes Hartsfield walked to put runners on the coirners again now with one out. Lena Carter hit a one hopper back to the mound for the second out and third baseman George DiPino robbed Lou Valo of a certain double with a great diving stop and pin point thorw to first base to end the inning.
Both teams turned double plays in the second inning. Ernie Morton grounded into a 4-6-3 double play for Oakland and Sean McNichol hit into an 6-4-3 in the bottom of the inning.
Oakland finally got going in the fifth inning. Singles by Mike Pena, Ernie Morton and George Di Pino put the first run for Oakland on the scoreboard.
The in the next inning, the sixth Oakland put the game away scoring three times. Centerfielder Bill Woodward led off with a double. Joey Brede walked. Shortstop Eric Baker doubled in Woodward. Baker stopped at third base, but he scored on a groundball to first by catcher Mike Pena. with one out.
Dutch Lupien replaced Dwight Seary, the Seattle starting pitcher, who saw a possible good outing vaborized in just one bad inning. Searcy dropped to 7-2 with the loss. Morton drove in Baker with the third run of the inning with a single off Lupein.
4-0 Oakland.
Wes Hartsfield ruined Newkirk's bid for a shutout in the eighth inning with his 5th homerun and that left things up to Kingman in the ninth, who staggered but got the job done.
