Re: What am I doing wrong!?
quick glance in my opinion(which most people tend to disagree with) your wr are to slow and your starting RCB has no buisness being on a team yet alone starting and as good as your QB is a C in agility from what ive found will lead to tons and tons of pressures and sacks
if your gonna use that mexler guy at all id use him at FB, he has no buisness playing TE or WR

Hang in there. I've been there. Learning this sim is a slow and extremely frustrating process at times but you'll get there in time. I'll take a look at your team and give you some feedback in a bit.

I wouldn't feel too bad. Not to speak disparagingly about ambush, your team's former owner, but he is a professional at screwing up rosters and playbooks to the point that it was abnormal for him not to be in the top 5 or 3 draft picks. It doesn't help that you didn't even get use of those picks last year and won't this year because they were traded away. I'm not going to lie-- those factors mean it might be an uphill battle getting that team into shape.
None of the WRs are really anything to write home about. There is way too high of an investment in red-letter tight ends so I'd trade one or two of them away ASAP. Randy Redman has A- strength, Jerry Protz has A- strength Randy Pyne only has B pass block, B strength and A- hands. We have an ongoing debate as to whether hands is even an important skill at all for centers yet it's the only skill that Pyne even has A- in. All three of these linemen are basically useless meaning the entire offensive line is not going to provide much protection at all. You have a nice RB but only one of these linemen blocks the run competently.
DT's only have A- strength. I consider B run cover to be a minimum for a DT to be useful. The only skill your DT's excel in is tackling.
One DE doesn't have strength and the other doesn't have tackle. The one with strength particularly is useless.
Steve Phillips is a great MLB. The others aren't. A- strength is usually a no-go with any defensive player that relies on strength. B run cover on a linebacker is the minimum and really, only B+ and above is considered useful. Again, these guys have great tackling but not much else.
Maybe CB Newman is worthwhile (I don't mess around with corners with lower than A- agility but this has been debated) but Gary Warren is an embarassment. A CB needs at least A in pass cover and A- or above in speed and agility. I've used CBs with low tackle but lately I've been making sure my CBs have at least B+ tackle.
The safeties are also terrible. Everyone seems to agree that the FS should have at least A- pass cover, tackle, pursuit and if possible, speed and agility. I like to have a FS like that and a SS with run cover in place of the pass cover, but some people like two safeties that carry the speed. Safeties are the hardest players IMO to find in the draft that have red letters in all the necessary skills so you usually have to settle for less than idea tackle, pursuit, speed or agility but they certainly need to cover the pass and/or the run.
You really need to rebuild the team from the ground up. Your guys are too old to hope to correct the problem-areas while holding on to what actually works but by the time you fix these other positions, the few positions that are adequate will be too old to be useful.
I don't usually recommend selling off everyone 26 or older for picks and starting a ground-up rebuild (because I do this and it sucks) but I really think that's the best option, especially since you're missing draft picks. Either way you're in for a long ride.

Re: What am I doing wrong!?
House cleaning 1st.
T Hunter to IR
WAIVE: wr Kelly and Long, C Pyne, DT David Mioduszewski, LB Matau, CB Warren, S Litkus and probably Kempf. Sweep 'em out, don't look back.
ACTIVATE: C Campbell, DT Tierney, DE Szymanski, LB Giles, CB Parrish.
Do the add/waive all at once.
Go to waivers and grab some B+ oldsters to fill out roster. They'll work for a season or 2. Needed are 1 cb, 2 s, 2 ol. Gonna have to start training a qb.
Generally I train:
qb and c @ D;
wr @ F;
rb, fb, te @ A;
ol @ A or C;
dl and lb @ W;
S @ S;
cb @ S or A.
Once they get 25-6 yr old train @ D or C depending on stamina.
Hope this helps...Good luck.

Re: What am I doing wrong!?
Your need to bring up Parrish and Giles from the inactive roster asap. Start Giles at SS and Parrish at FS then play Shapiro or Wendlick at RCB. The rest of your defense isn't great but it's good enough.
You traded away a 1st for that TE so you should use him, start him as a WR. When you're in the shotgun formation play him or Chamblee in the slot and the other in the flanker position. Play literally anybody but Pyne at center while Heinrich is out also.
Also DO NOT TRADE FUTURE 1ST'S FOR 29 YEAR OLD PLAYERS.
Seriously tho.......don't trade future 1st or 2nd round picks until you've made the playoffs or just missed a playoff spot.

Re: What am I doing wrong!?
I'd listen to the two of them if you don't want to blow the team up and start over. If anyone can get the best out of a roster, it's sbho2.
Loosing those picks were a real bummer. This season and last season are basically a wash because you lost and didn't even get the benefit of loosing (high draft pick) so I also agree that there is no sense trading any picks until you're sure you're not giving away a likely top 3 pick for a tight end. I love tight ends (that sounds wrong) but especially at age 29, that's a really jacked up transaction when you consider you probably gave away a top 5 pick :-\
If there's one lesson I'm glad I finally taught myself when going through my own rebuild is to hold onto your draft picks like grim death so you can be the master of your own destiny. Especially if you think you're going to lose a lot of games anyway.

That's the spirit! This sim takes a while to learn and a lot of owners don't have the patience. Stick with it!Fdejesus93 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 1:33 pm Thanks guys for all the advice and messages. Also your second half back is a pretty solid wide receiver so is your starting halfback I consider using one of them at wideout, but for rest of year I would just play all your youngest guys since your already out of it
