Anaheim 6 Toronto 2

American league rivals Anaheim (18-1 at Albie Pearson Park) and Toronto (12-7 on the road) hooked up in Anaheim in a battle to get a bit closer to the front running Angels by the second place team.

Starting pitcher Mike Marion (5-1 5.09) went 8.1 innings gave up 7 hits and 2 runs struxck out 6 and walked 2 for the Angerls.

Toronto drew first blood in the 5th inning demonstrating some extra base power in the inning.

Roy Wilson went deep over the left field fence for his 4th of the season, 13th off Marion this season. Toronto continued to hit Maron hard in the inning. Vic Mahilec doubled into the center field gap. Krivda strck out and Jim Huelsman flied out to right field for the second out. Needing only to get the pitcher out to get out of the inning, Marion grooved one to Larry Barker, who singled driving in the second Toronto run.

2-0 Toronto.

Anaheim came right back to tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Troy Uhlaender singled and stole second base. Todd Campau, filling in for starting shortstop Davy Marquard, singled in Uhlaender to make the score 2-1. Marion sacrifice bunted Campau to third base. Ossie Gilhooley's single tied the game 2-2.

Toronto threatoned again in the 6th.

Paul Beard doubled and Dick Gooch singled to left field. Gooch tried to score on the hit, but Gilhooley got to the ball quickly and made a strong throw to Raydon, blocking the the plate, to get Beard for the first out of the inning. Fred Marshall was the second out on a routine fly out to Kearns in right and Roy Wilson tapped back to the mound.

Anaheim siezed the momentum in the bottom of the 6th.

Dillon grounded out to third baeman George Krivda for the first out. Jim Nixon doubled to deep right center field to get the rally started. Kearns flied out to centerfielder Paul Beard for the second out. Anaheim came up with three straight clutch two-out hits to score three runs of Barker who did not get out of the inning. Catcher Les Raydon singled to center driving in Nixon. uhlaender lashed a triple off the left field wall scoring Raydon and Todd Campau came through again with another hit driving in Uhlaender to finish off Barker (5.2IP 9H 5R/5ER 3BB/7SO) Red Hallinan came in to get the third out..Marion fouled out tio Krivda near the on stands.

5-2 Anaheim.

Anaheim did add one more run in the 7th inning (off Hallinan) when Don Lary singled, stole second, and Paul Dillon singled him in for a 6-2 FINAL.
