In game one of that series, played at Griffith Stadium before a packed house of 27,000, on Monday September 10, 1951, the Patapscos earned a decisive victory in game one when Marv Geary went eight shutout innings allowing six hits, two base on balls and six strikeouts to stifle the Senators attack for the first eight innings and Kai Fernandez too over in the ninth for his 23rd save of the season.

Court Thomas drove in all three of Baltimore's runs, (only two were earned), off Will Brady (11-2) over 6.1 innings. Brady issued three walks and five strikeouts.

The first two runs came in the second inning when Keaton Davis reached on an error by left fielder John Bracken and Davis hit his 9th homerun of the season.
