Washington 5 Oakland 1

Washington took game three of their series with Oakland 5-1 to take that series two games to one. The win gave the Senators a 39-24 record, three games behind first place Baltimore.

Baltimore (42-24) lost its third straight at Boston, to the Red Sox 5-4.

Frank Holke had two hits and three runs batted in to support Kelly Reiss WP (1-0)

Washington ace Will Brady won his league best 12th game (12-2). Brady lost his last start to end a five game winning streak for the 1950 Cy Young Award. Brady leads the league in wins, and is second in games started 15, ERA (2.15), and strikeouts (91).

Brady put in seven and one third innings, gave up one run on six hits, struck out five, and walked three. Sam Jorgenson picked up his 23rd save with a scoreless ninth inning that reduced his ERA to 3.67. In his last 11 games, Jorgenson, has allowed one run on 13 hits with eleven consecutive saves.

There was no scoring over the first three innings. Brady allowed two hits and two walks recording four of his five strike outs. Monte Avrea was slightly better striking out one allowing with one walk.

In the top of the fourth inning Washington took a 2-0 lead on a one out double to center field by John Bracken. With two outs Avrea hit Dick Walters with a pitch and Steve Rigney doubled to left field driving in both runners.

In the bottom of the fourth Daryl Blanchard hit his sixth homerun of the season. the sixth off Brady this season in 117 innings to put the score at 2-1 Washington.

Washington extended its lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning. Avrea walked Jimmy Jamieson. Jamieson, the leading base stealer in the American League, sole second base and Walters reached on an error by leftfielder Jose Pieh allowed Jamieson to score and a single by Steve Rigney to centerfield brought in Walters.

One inning later it was 5-1 Washington as the Senators played some ABC baseball (Get 'em on, get 'em over get 'em in). Catcher Hal Knepper walked. Brady bunted him to second base and Van Brucker singled in the run.
