Washington 3 Boston 1

Washington continues to eschew long winning streaks in favor of laboring for series wins, a venture on the daring side to say the least.

Washington as is their want to do lost game two of this series to set up a rubber game in game three.

The Senators scored all three of their runs in the first two innings of Boston starter Ken Bohn (2-9)and left it up to their starting pitcher to hold the lead.

John Bracken (three for three in the game and now batting .321 for the season) singled past first baseman Rudy Nokes with two outs. Bracken stole second (24th) ad scored on Dick Walters single to right field.

1-0 Washington.

But not for long. Boston came back in he top of the second inning to tie the game.

A lead of single by Tim Dunlap got things going. Bohn's sacrifice bunt got the runner to second safely for Billy Starnes to drive in with a double past the diving efforts of third baseman Steve Rigney to tie the game.

Washington responded imediately in the second inning. Rigney singled to left field and vstole second but was foolishly thrown out at third base by catcher Mario Church. After that good defensive play things fell apart completely for Boston. Steve Walsh reached on a careless two base error by third baseman Johnny Stratten.

With Walsh on second left fielder Johnny Clyde dropped a routine flyball hit by catcher Hank Campbell, allowing Walsh to score for second. Jim Knothe's two out single drove in Campbell to put Washington ahead 3-1.

John Mercedes did the rest, Mercedes, now 4-4 after going eight innings, allowing one run on six hits, two walks, and four strikeouts got the win only after Sam Jorgenson earned his thirteenth straight save and 24th of the season with a scoreless ninth inning
