Washington 3 New York 1

Washington's Willard Brady secured the Cy Young Award with his league best 14th win with eight innings against New York in a final tune up for the ALCS. Brady allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out ten. The ten strikeouts left him with a league best 116 strikeouts pending the final starts of several others in the hunt for most strikeouts.

Losing pitcher Johnny DeShong (6-6) lost his third decision to the Senators. DeShong made four starts and pitched 26.2 innings allowed 30 hits and 14 runs (12 earned) 9 walks, 18 strikeouts and a 4.12 ERA.

Washington took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Jimmy Jamieson, the league leading hitter (.339) beat out a bunt single and stole his league leading 32nd base and scored on a single by Steve Walsh.

New York evened the score in the sixth inning. Chet Gregg doubled to the center field wall and Earl Blackwell singled to centerfield driving him in.

Washington had a response in the bottom of the sixth. Steve Rigney singled to left and scored on Billy Burke single. 2-1 Washington.

Washington added on a run in the eighth inning. Rick Andrews walked the first two batters, Jim Knothe and pinch hitter Ed Stroud and Van Brucker beat out an infield single off Andrews glove driving in Knothe.

Around the league Oakland's Bill Straker leads the league in runs batted in (64) Washington's Jimmy Jamieson is second with 57. Jamieson is the leader hitter at .339. and Straker is second at .330.

Straker leads in homeruns with 19. Laddie Riebe trails with 18. That leaves Straker with a chance at a triple crown.

Among the pitchers, Willard Bady, of Washington, has made his final start and finished with 14 wins, a 2.21 ERA and 116 strikeouts
