Angels 5 Baltimore 1

The Angels have won nine of their last ten to claim a two game lead in the American League. They have been a late inning scoring team scoring 63 runs after the 6th inning. The Angels opened their series with Baltimore with a 5-1 victory behind their biggest winner Frank Roberts (6-0). Roberts went 8.1 innings allowed 7 hits 1 run issued 2 walks and struck out 9.

Losing pitcher Dick Goff (3-4) went 6 innings allowed 5 hits 2 runs walked 3 struck out 2.

Goff said in his defense, ''I had problems with the umpire's strike zone. It moved and moved on me..basically where I threw was not anywhere near his zone. he should be in rookie ball.''

Julio Daughterty siolved Roberts for his 5th homerun in the 4th inning woth no one on and one out. It was the third hit off Roberts this season.

1-0 Baltimore.

Goss began the 5th inning by walking Troy Uhlaender and Les Raydon displaying body language on the mound that gave the obvious impression that he was groweing more and more upset with rookie umpire Gerome Katkavage's strike zone. Roberts put down a good bunt sacrificing the runners to second and third. Ossie Gilhooley hit a ground ball to shortstop Bill Bladt that scored Uhlaender tying the game.

Rookie Shelson Pulido singled past thrd baseman Charlie Brooks..Raydon scored .. 2-1 Anaheim.

In the 8th inning Pulido struck again wiith a single to rigjht. Moser issued a walk to Tom Kearnes and shortstop David Marquard singled to centerfield driving in Pulido .. Kearns was thrown out at thrid base by centerfielder Joe Cocreham (8-5).

Gary Lacy replaced Billy moser (1.1 innings 3 hits 2 runbs 2 walks) ...

Dillon grounded to first... Marquard to second base. Jim nixon doubled off the right field wall... Marquard trotted home with run number two of the inning ... Troy Uhlaender doubled into the center field gap ...Nixon scored... 5-1 Anaheim


9th inning .. Cocreham doubled with one out...

Frank Adams replaced Roberts (8.1 7 hits 1 run 2 walks 9 strikeouts...6-0.)

Dougherty out 4-3...2 out...Adams fell behind Doc Ott and walked him putting runners on first and third with two outs...Vines replaced Adams...(0.1 inning 1 BB)

Charlie Vines came in to clse it out by striking out Fred McCormick to end the game. Vines 5th save.

Texas defeated Toronto 6-1.

New York is back on the winning track taking a 7-2 win over Seattle.

Tampa took out some frustration on Oakland 8-3.
