Seattle Anaheim series...Doc Edwards Baseball

Post by jacktoast »

eGame one....

A big series in Seattle for not only Seattle, but Toronto and New York, as well.

Stan Hack (4-2) outpitched losing pitcher Larry Casey, who did not have a good performance, lasting only four innings giving up ten hits, five runs no walks and three strike outs.

Seattle scored four runs on five hits in the 4th inning to propel them to the win. Singles by Hector Ryan, Jesse Beggs, and Juan Edgarton and a sacrifice fly by Dave Arroyo keyed the big inning.

Jim Nixon homered for Anaheim in the 5th to cut the lead to 5-1 but Seattle came right back to score two more in the 5th off Steve Verhoeven to ice the game.

An error by shortstop David Marquard figured prominently into the scoring as did a single by Daly and a seeing eye RBI single by George Daly.

Game two

Don Lary had three hits including his 4th homerun that put the Angels in front 2-1 in the bottom of the 2nd.

In the bottom half of that inning Jerry Begs solo homerun and a RBI double by Juan Edgarton off rookie Marshall Ashford tied the game 2-2.

Anaheim took the lead one inning later when Marquard reached on an error by Hector Ryan and scored on Les Raydon's 7th homerun of the season.

4-1 Anaheim

Seattle closed to within one run in the bottom of the 8th on a solo homerun by Dave Aroyo (8th) and 4th hit off Ashford in three starts (25.1 IP)

Ashford did not wilt. He struck out Larry Gruber. Daly flied out to Paul Dillon in center for the second out. Ryan singled to left field and Ashford walked Jerry Beggs singled to bring an end to Ashford's outing. (WP 2-0 7.2IP 8H 3R/3ER 2BB/5SO).

Steve Verhoeven struck out Edgarton to end the inning.

Charlie Vines continued to excel as the closer facing three batters in the 9th retiring all three and striking out George Hackett to end the game.
That set up a rubber game in the finale. Starters in that game Frank Roberts (6-0 1.88) will oppose Dick Werley (2-1 6.14).
