American League results;

Toronto finds itself in second place now after the results of recent games. Toronto is 24-15 and moved past Seattle who lost two of three to Anaheim.

TORONTO 2 NEW YORK 0

Scott Trowbridge (5-0 2.84) went 7.2 shutout innings allowing five hits two walks and five strikeouts before handing things off to Jimmy Otanez for one out in the 8th and Terry Mangus in the 9th for his 7th save.

Two double plays helped out Trowbridge in the game. Bill Doyle hit into one in the 4th and Gus Leathers into the second in the 8th started by shortstop Dick Gooch one play after Gooch had booted a ball for an error. The two outs on the second double play were the final two outs recorded by Trowbridge.

Toronto's two runs came in the 2nd inning off losing pitcher Dave Berenyi (7IP 8H 2R/2ER 0BB/4SO.) Marshall and Wilson singled and George Krivda grounded a single through the shortstop hole for the games only two runs.

Tampa 3 Texas 1

Gene Valdes (WP 2-4) Save by Joe Nelson, his 7th.

Hark Loucks hit a 1st inning homerun for Texas.


Tampa Bay tied the game 1-1 in the 6th. Mark Pyle doubled to center field and Joe Rivers singled him in.

Mark Pyle's 6th homerun of the season off Merritt Dalton put Tampa in front 2-1 in the 8th. in the 9th a single by George Blaeholder put Tampa in front by two for Joe Nelson in the 9th to get his 7th save.

Angels 4 Seattle 1

A great pitching performance by Anaheims ace Frank Roberts gave the Angels a series win two games to one and kept them four in front of the second place team.

Roberts went eight innings and retired the first 18 batters in a row before Dave Arroyo broke up the no-hitter as well as the shutout with a homerun leading of the 7th inning. Seattle's other hit came next, a single by Larry Gruber. George Daly hit into a double play to short circuit that inning and Ryan grounded to shortstop to end it.

Anaheim got to Seattle starting pitcher Dick Werley for three runs on three hits in the 3rd inning. All three hits were of the extra base variety. Davy Marquard tripled. Les Raydon doubled in Marquard and Jim Nixon went deep for his 7th homerun of the year, a two run shot. 3-0 Anaheim

Anaheim added a run in the 9th off Steve hearron. Kearns singled. Hearron struck out the next twlo batters; Uhleander and Gilhooley, before pinch hitter Bob Randolf singled to left field sending Kearns to third base. Paul Dillon singled in the run and Charlie Vines made the 4-1 lead stand up for his 9th save.
