Anaheim began a nine game road trip in Oakland (who swept the Angels at home on the Opening Day July 4 weekend). The trip will also include stops in Tampa Bay (7-15, 3-0 at home) and a three game series with first place Texas 16-6 2-1 at home).

Larry Casey started game one in Oakland and took a two hit shutout into the ninth inning. Casey retired the first thirteen batters before running into trouble in the 5th inning. Casey walked Tracey Coakley with one out in the inning, the first base runner for Oakland. Oakland catcher Melvin Thompson broke up the no-hitter with a single sending Coakley to third base. Casey escaped by getting Norm Shoffner to ground into a double play started by shortstop Bobby Slocumb. (6-4-3).

Mike Lachowicz singled with one out in the 6th but was left on base and that was the only hits allowed by Casey over the first eight innings and the only other runner was Coakley who walked with two outs on the 7th inning.

Oakland spoiled the shutout in the 9th inning and got did not allow Casey the complete game (WP 3-2 2.75ERA 8.2 3H 2R/2ER 4BB/4SO). Ed Telemacho and Campy Camapaneris drew one out walks.howie Reid grounded out sharply to shortstop Davy MNarquard with both rneers advancing. Coakley who had drawn two walks previously singled up the middle driving in Oaklands only two runs as Charlie Vines came on to get Thampson to fly out to Kearns in ruight field.

The Angels built up a 5-0 lead in the early innings.

Jim Nixon hit a solo homerun (4th) off DocMaisel in the 1st inning.

Maisel hit second baseman Walt Windhorn to start the 2nd and catcher Jim Torres singled to center sending Windhorn to thrid base. Torroes stole second putting runners on second and thir. Slocumb singeld in Windhorn. Torres stopped at third. Casey flied out to short left field and Torres was thrown out at home by lkeft fielder Rickey Asase to end the inning (7-2 double play). ***why is it these doubloe plays are never credited in the box score???***

2-0 Anaheim.

3rd inning; Two out singles by Nixon and Dillon put runners on first and third. Sheldon Pulido's ground ball singel that just got by shiortstop Campaneris drove in Nixon. Windhorn eached on an error by Campaneris. Torres walked with the bases loaded to force in a run (Dillon) before Slocumb struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

4-0 Anaheim.

Paul Dillon made it 5-0 in the 5th inning with his 4th homerun, second given up by Maisel in his first start of the season; 6 innings.

Oakland's two runs in the 9th inning were the only other scoring making this a 5-2 FINAL.

Oakland picked up a game on a rare Texas loss; 13-9 to Seattle

Seattle had 11 hits and 9 runs in the game and Texas had 11 runs on 13 hits. Each team made one error.

Seattle left just 2 runners on base and Texas stranded 9.

Garry Werley, the third of six pitchers used by Seattle got the win. He is 2-0. Snake Cooleypitched 1.1 innings for Texas and was charged with all six of the runs (four earned) scored by Seattle in the 8th to break a 7-7 tie.

Homers in the game;There were three, one for Seattle hit by Broadway Gleason's 2nd this season in the 6th with one out and no one on base, off Rocky Cady.

There were two for Texas; Ted Bettencourt hit his 4th in the 9th with two outs off Ozzie Rhyne. Tom Fritz hit his 3rd off Hunkey Faneyte with one out in the 4th.

Betencourt was four for four with two runs scored 4 runs batted in with a double and a homerun for the best line in the game.
