Seattle scored four runs on five hits in the first inning on a double by John Patterson leading off. Alex Pujols knocked in the first run with a single to right and George Daly rapped a double to left field driving in Pujols with run number two. Arroyo walked with one out and Jim Derringer singled in Daly to give Seattle a 3-0 lead. Arroyo tried to score from first but was thrown out at the plate by right fielder Mitchell Anderson. Angels 4 Oakland 2

BAefore the game there was some traffic between the two clubhouses as the two teams traded three players. Anaheim traded disgruntled catcher Les Raydon, who was not getting much playing time, and relief pitcher Larry Crosby to Oakland for starting pitcher Jim Storti.

Anaheim called up minor league catcher Keith Larker to fill the open spot on the roster. Sent relief pitcher Paul lopez to AAA and recalled outfielder Joe Rooks from waivers.

The Angels got to Oakland starting pitcher Dick Anderson for a run in the top of the 1st inning.

Ossie Gilhooley grounded a single to center field. Don Lary bounced out to first base advancing Gilhooley to second. Tom Kearns singled to right field bringing in Gilhooley. Nixon stuck out but Kearns stole second base and a bad throw by catcher Melvin Thompson allowed him to go to third base. Anderson left him standing there by getting Dillon on a come backer to the end to end the inning.

1-0 Anaheim.

Mike Marion escaped the bottom of the first inning thanks to timely a double play. He gave up a lead off double to Tim Snyder, then walked Everett Telemaco. Troy Uhlaender, making his first start since coming off the disabled list, started a 4-6-3 double play that changed the inning around. Snyder went to third, but was left there when Howie Reid popped out to Uhlaender in short right field.

Anderson had a little trouble in the bottom of the second as well, but worked out of it. Jim Torres singled to right field with one out. David Marquard walked. Marion, the pitcher, bunted the runners to second and third base with two out. Gilhooley struck out in his second at bat to strand the runners.

The score remained 1-0 Anaheim.

In the top of the 4th inning, singles by Kearn and Nixon, a stolen base by Nixon put runners on second and third with one out, but Anderson stranded them there getting Dillon on a short pop fly to center field and Uhlaender flied to left field.

Telemaco had a one out double in the Oakland 6th but it came to nothing.

The top of 8th proved to be the big inning for Anahem in this game and some shoddy fielding by Oakland helped as well. Oakland committed four errors in this game.

Still 1-0 Anaheim.

After Kearns struck out to start the inning, Nixon reached on an two base throwing error by shortstop Ed Meehan. That brought right hander Ken Stuart into the game with one out replacing an exhausted Dick Anderson (LP 7.1IP 5H 2R/1ER 3BB/4SO).

Stuart struck out the first batter he faced, Paul Dillon, but walked the second one, Troy Uhlaender, on five pitches.

With Uhlaender back in the line up Bob Randolf has returned to what he does best, pinch hitting. Randolf batted for catcher Jim Torres and singled in a run (Nixon) Uhlaender sped around to third bae. Randolf, a pinch hitter with good speed, stole second base. Shortstop Davy Marquard tripled driving in both runners.

A great play by second baseman Tracy Coakley on a hot shot hit by pitcher Mike Marion bought the inning to an end.

Pinch hitter Mike Lachowicz batting for shortstop Ed Meehan, grounded out to third baseman Jim Nixon to start the bottom of the 8th. A familar face for the Angels, Les Raydon, traded to Oakland before the game, pinch hit for the pitcher and walked. Snyder grounded to first...Raydon moved to second.Paul lopez came in to pitch to Telemaco. Marion, the winning pitcher 2-0, left after 7.2 innings 4 hits allowed no runs 2 walks 4 strikeouts but responsible for Raydon on second base. Telemaco grounded wealy to first base to end the inning.

Lefthander Larry Crosby made his first appearance against his former team in the top of the 9th. Gilhooley singled and Pulido reached on Oakland's fourth error of the game, this one charged to Mike Lachowicz who came in to play shortstop after he pinch hit. Crosby did a great job of damage control getting Kearns to ground into a 4-6-3 double play and then struck out Nixon to end the inning.

Lopez was still on the mound for Anaheim in the bottom of the 9th. Fred McNeil flied to center field for the first out. Lopez issued a walk to Howie Reid the second batter of the inning. Coakley grounded to first moving Reid to second but there were noqw two outs. Melvin Thompson batted and Thompson has been money in the bank for Oakland both last season and this year. Last season he had a game winning homer in one game off Paul Knell and sent another into extra innings with a double off Nellie Hines.

In this game he doubled in Reid to give Oakland two runs in the unning.

Charlie Vines replaced Lopez. (1IP 2H 2R/2ER)

Vines gave up a hit to Norm Shoffner and walked Labowicz. Vines struck out pinch hitter Tim Mustakis to end the game and get his 5th save.
