Anaheim Angels 4 Tampa Bay Tuna 2

Twenty four year old left hander Jim Storti, acquired from Oakland. made his first start in game two of the three game series with Tampa, in Tampa. Storti went six innings for the Angels fourth win in five games on this nine game road trip. Storti allowed two runs on six hits walked one and struck out five.

The Tuna got out in front early after right handed starting pitcher Dave Hersh, a twenty seven year old right hander from Birmingham, Alabama, set the Angels down in order in the first inning.

Tampa lead off batter Joel Peterson singled, on a ground ball up the middle, and the second hitter, Benny Herrera lined a doubled to left field scoring Peterson. Storti retired the next three batters, Bob Suhr on a routine flyball to Paul Dillon in centerfield, Joe Rivers on a called third strike, and Mark Pyle on a flyball to Jim Rondeau in leftfield to limit the damage to one run.

1-0 Tampa.

Anaheim came back to tie the game in the 3rd inning. David Marquard led off with a triple to left centerfield. Tampa brought its infield in to cut down the run at the plate. Rookie catcher Keith Larker flied out to Pyle in centerfield for the first out, there was no advance by the runner. That brought up the pitcher, Jim Sorci, in a key situation in the ball game and he came through with a hard ground ball off second baseman Joel Peterson's glove for an infield single scoring Marquard with the tying run.

Tampa quickly took the lead again in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Pitcher Dave Hersh struck out but Peterson and Herrera both singeld and Suhr walked to load the bases with one out Joe Rivers ground ball to third base that nixon had to go to first with scored Peterson to give Tampa a 2-1 leadPyle grounded out to Nixon to end the inning.

2-1 Tampa Bay.

There was no scoring in the middle innings, but both clubs left runners on base. Anaheim left two runners on in the 4th inning. Paul Dillon amd Troy Marquard had consecutive singles putting runners on first and third but Marquard grounded out to second baseman Joel Peterson.

Pitcher Jim Storti reached on an error on first baseman Joe Rivers with one out in ther 5th but was left on base.

Anaheim was set down in order in the 6th by Hersh.

Tampa left two runners on over those three innings. Hersh had a lead off single in the 5th and the Tuna left their pitcher out in the sun for the whole inning and Mark Pyle had a single past Marquard into left field in the 6th

The Angels pinch hit for storti afterh he pitched the bottom of the 6th inning with Jim Torres aboard after walking and Rooks hit his first career homeun to put the Angels in front for the first time and put Storti in line to be the winning pitcher.

The Anaheim bullpen of Nellie Hines and Charlie Vines shut down Tampa for the final three innings allowing no hits. Vines earneed his 7th save.

Storti was the winning pitcher, 1-1

New York defeated Texas 5-4New York scored four runs in the first inning off Texas starting pitcher Gregg Baldwin. Baldwin had control issues in the inning walking Gus Leathers, Wayne Romano and Craig DePaula to fill the sacks. Bill Doyle struck out then Roy Foxen tripled to clear them all. Oscar Goad grounded out to first to bring in the fourth run.

4-0 New York.

Texas began to chip away at that lead. Red Johnson had a run scoring double in the 5th to cut it to 4-1.

Mitchell Anderson's 8th homerun off Julio Pittman leading off the 6th inning made it 4-2. Texas added a second run in the inning on a single by Ted Bettencourt.

4-3 New York.

Texas tied the game 4-4 in the top of the 8th inning. Tom Fritz singled and stole second base off a tiring Julio Pittman who was replaced with one out in the inning. Herman Morris came in and gave up a run scoring single to Lou Murphy.

In the top of the 9th Roy Foxen singeld went to third on a single by Dick hudek and scored the go ahead run on a double by Chris Dillard.

Boyd Shreve pitched the 9th for his first save.. 5-4 Final

Toronto won its 7th straight 4-3 over Seattle.

Baltimore and Okland slugged it out and Baltimore won it 12 -11
