The Angels assured themselves of a winning road trip for their nine game excursion to three cities. With six games played the Angels are 5-1 with the toughest leg of the journey remaining, a trip into Houston to play the Texas Southern, who lead the American League by one game now after suffering a 6-2 loss in the third game of their series with new York. Texas dropped two of three to New York in New York and finished their short one series road trip 1-2.

Larry Casey made the start for Anaheim and went 8.1 innings 7 hits 1 run 3 walks and six strikeouts. With the win Casey is now 4-2 w/a 2.45 ERA in 47.2 innings pitched. opponents are hitting .227 off him and have hit two homeruns.

In the third inning Anaheim scored one run on two hits off Cuke Klimkowski. Davis Marquard led off with a double to left field. Catcher Keith Larker grounded out to the shortstop. Pitcher Larry Casey hit a one hopper back to the mound and was thrown out by the pitcher. Ossie Gilhooley came through with a clutch two out single riving in the first run for the Angels. 1-0 Angels.


Jim Nixon had a one out single in the 4th inning. Paul Dillon hit a smash back to the mound that was knocked down by Klimkowski and he made the only play he could to first for the second out. Nixon advanced to second. Troy Uhlaender doubled to center field driving in Nixon. 2-0 Angels

In the 6th a one out walk to Ossie Gilhooley, a stolen base by Gilhooley, and a single by Don Lary extended the lead to 3-0.

Tampa scored a run in the bottom of the 7th. George Maisel and Mark Pyle singled. Maisel went to third on Pyle's single. Pyle stole second. Pinch hitter Jim Robertson singled with two out driving in Maisel, but Pyle was thrown out at the plate by center fielder Paul Dillon to end the inning.

3-1 Angels.

Anaheim put some distance between them and the Tuna in the 8th inning. Oscar Gilhooley hit his 2nd homerun of this season off Klimkowski with no one out. It was the 7th given up by Klimkowski. Gene Jefferson replaced Klimkowski but only poured gas on the fire allowing singles to Kearns and Nixon and a two run double to Paul Dillon.

Jefferson was then replaced by Bob Behan who obtained the final two outs of the inning

Casey tried for the complete game but he walked pyle and Rivers with one out in the 9th and Charlie Vines came on to get Cordero to line out to nixon at third base and struck out Doc Carr for his 8th save of the season. Vines has made 11 appearances since he was last scored on. (9.2 innings) and now as a 1.54 ERA for the season and a .171 opponants batting average, one point less than he posted last season.
