Toronto 2 Texas 1

Post by jacktoast »

The key series in Toronto was delayed by rain. After a two hour rain delay the game was able to be played.

Toronto 2 Texas 1

Toronto continued to fight and claw for wins as the season rolls on. Dave Doll the 1951 All Star, upped his record in 1952 to 5-3 after eight starts with his second complete game performance of the season. Doll gave up one run on six hits walked three and struck out four.

The only Texas run off Doll came in the 3rd inning we he walked the opposing pitcher, Scott Donovan. Donovan does not have good speed, but Doll ignored him and Donovan took off for second and made it for his first career stolen base. Donovan ran the bases well advancing to third base on a groundout to second by Bill Strunk and scored on another infield out, this one a grounder hit by Mitchell Anderson.

Toronto tied the game in the 7th inning on a homerun by Fred Mitchell, his 4th of the season, and the 6th allowed in 48.2 innings by Donovan.

Donovan went 7 innings gave up one run on six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven.

Snake Cooley worked a scoreless 8th inning and turned thigng over still tied to Steve Ballou in the 9th. Balllou (LP-1-2) unfortunately did not fare we... Fred Marshall singled and scred the winning run on a triple by Tony Daugherty.
