Sketchiest Award winners ever?

Post by dirtdevil »

STL players Buck Sims and Frank Jones have won major awards what are maybe the weakest candidacies ever in the BoHo. Sims is a great player, but was named NL MVP despite spending almost half the season in the AL and seeing his rate numbers drop substantially after the trade. Jones "rebounded" from his disastrous 2122 season to win not only the Fireman, but also the NL Cy Young despite leading the league in blown saves with 16 (33% more than anyone else), a 1.50 WHIP and an ERA of almost 5.

I think we should make them give them back.

Sims I can possibly understand, he gets a bonus for changing leagues and hitting was down all over the National League, nobody hit even 25 homers, nobody drove in 100 runs and only one hitter topped 175 hits but Jones is an abomination.

I would have hoped Neel would have won .

That's absolutely a terrible Cy Young season. Wow.

Congrats to Sims though. That's exciting! A Hamiltonian Award winner ... since we barely had anyone worthy of even a back-up allstar nod. :)
