Baseball Prospectus Top Prospects 2161

Post by cwballer25 »

Here we go...the long lost top prospects report from Baseball Prospectus. We will only count players currently in the minor leagues just to keep it simple.

31-40, The Nice To Havers
40. Clyde Carisch, OF, NYA - OS 20 with some decent splits on offense (C/B-/C+/B- and ok defense), Carisch profiles out to be a solid player for years

39. Les Kealey, C, MINOS 19, I doubt Kealey stays as a catcher due to a noodle arm, but still with time should be a pretty good player

38. Nap Swander, OF, CHN OS 23 outfielder from Chicago, Swander has little in terms of power but should be an excellent leadoff hitter and has good defense. He is already 23 but should at worst be a good super-sub

37. Charles Fosnow, OF, PHI OS 22, with poor health but decent all around ratings. Won't likely be a star but will be an ok bottom of the order hitter and solid on defense although he will spend some time on the DL. Nice speed is a redeeming quality.

36. Bob Drahman, OF, BAL OS 22 with A health, great range and an ok arm, with plus power vs LHP, Drahman should be an above average major leaguer

35. Terry Jordan, SP, CINOS22, and Jordan is on this list because of the dearth of pitching talent in the league. B/B-, so Jordan needs some help but should at least be a good back end SP

34. Joel Conley, C, BAL OS 20, with an average arm for a catcher and poor health, but excellent power, Conley projects out to be a very good catcher, although the C- health isnt ideal at the position

33. Hod Nieves, OF, CHNOS 19, nothing eyepopping but still young and all around decent, think he will probably end up getting to B+/A- in many categories

32. Sandy Machado, 3B, CHAOS 20 with poor health but plus range, speed, and good potential on power. With 15 CP he should improve quick and could be a plus hitter

31. Bill Smith, OF, CHAOS 21, A health and all around above average. Could end up with above average power and contact, as a great hitter but horrible on defense

21-30 - The Keepers
30. Todd Morse, SS, MINOS 21, poor health and so-so defense, but B-/A- vs RHP means Morse could be a premium hitter against the most common opposing pitcher

29. Ed Alvarez, RP, PHI OS 20, B-/C+ and C+ endurance so could be a SP someday, could end up being a plus option since he has 15CP and no competition

28. Rick Morales, SP, CIN OS 23 the second appearance of a SP on the list, Morales is OS23 and A-/B-. But we are in a pitching starved league right now...and Morales could end up A/B or better, which would be a decent 3rd SP. Gets you on the list!

27. Lou Boyd, RP, SEA OS 19, Boyd has a lot of time and if he ends up being one of those guys who rips off 15-20 improves, could end up much much higher. A-/C RP means he is unpredictable but definitely someone to keep an eye on

26. Jim Bowen, SS, NYA OS 21, could use a little help on PVR but otherwise an all around nice guy and plenty of upside

25. Junior Walker, RP, SF OS 19, B-/C+ with C- endurance, Walker looks like a top Setup man at worst. He should be a lockdown option in the bullpen

24. Carl Hoerst, SS, NYNOS 21, Hoerst has some time to improve, and plus power. He has weak defense but should be an occasional all-star

23. Richie Polonia, 2B, PHIOS18. You might not even notice Polonia, but he is OS18 and has some skill. D-/C+ vs RHP, D+/B vs LHP. Bad D, bad health, but big upside on offense

22. Jesse Gates, SS, NYNOS21, a B+ overall SS with lots of positions played, Gates has excellent defense, elite speed, and decent ratings vs RHP with slightly better ratings vs LHP. Gates could use some improves on offense to really separate himself

21. Greg Davis, OF, TEXOS22 is the only reason Davis is not cracking the top 20...all around above average everywhere and could end up being Mr Consistent

The Key Pieces 11-20
20.Jim Doran, SP, TEXOS21 , A-/C+ with B+ endurance, Doran should be a back end SP at worst, maybe 3rd SP. He is going to be a solid piece of a rotation and could be better if he gets lucky with improves

19. Ed Senerchia, RP, SEAOS22, B/B+, should be the closer of the future, starting soon, in Seattle. Senerchia should be a great closer

18. Bill Wacker, OF, NYNOS22, made an exception since he only has 10 AB's. A- health and plus power, Wacker should be an occasional allstar

17. Gordon Dean, C, TEX OS18 with C health but a B arm and good power and a ton of time, you have to think Dean will be another great catcher. Needs some help and time from ABE but with 3-4 years of 15 CP, he's a monster

16. Jose Rigney, C, HOU OS 19 catcher, Rigney is a strong armed catcher with A+ health and good power. He could use some help on making contact but Rigney profiles out as a franchise catcher who should make more than a few allstar games

15.Hugh Moran, RP, CINOS23 B-/A-, another closer of the future, Moran should be a lockdown closer and could be one of the best in Cincy history

14. Herm Roettger, RP, MIN OS20 and B/B+, Roettger is yet another elite closer in the making. None of these guys have great endurance so probably not a long RP option but all look to be great late bullpen options

13. Walt Valo, RP, NYNOS20. Why not, another closer. Valo is B-/A- and possibly has the highest ceiling of these closers...there are a lot of great closers in NY history but Valo is hoping to be the next

12. Harry Fultz, OF, SEAOS24 is the only thing keeping Fultz this low on the list. C+/A ratings vs RHP and similar vs LHP, he has bad health but solid defense and should mash on offense, just getting a bit old for a prospect so won't make tons more improves

11.Tony Giebel, SP, BROOS20, another SP on here, Giebel doesnt look like an ace but could end up as a great #2/3 SP. He is B/B- with B+ endurance and some time to improve. If he breaks through to B control that would be huge

The Franchise(s), 1-10
10. Jack Wahlberg, OF, BALOS19 and already B overall, he has poor power but otherwise is exceptional. If he gets some power improves, watch out

9. Austin Moore, OF, NYN OS19, A- health, terrible defense but incredible power. Moore needs some improves on contact but NY is hoping he is a key part of the next run

8. Randy Glossop, 3B, BOSOS22, Randy has A+ power vs RHP and should be a lethal option immediately. He has a chance to make a run at some MVPs

7. Todd Gardner, SP, NYNOS 18 and D/B. Definitely needs help on velocity but with 4 years of improves, hoping to see C/A out of him with C+/A+ upside and SP2/3 possibilities

6. Aaron Beckham, SP, NYAOS21, A+/C+, it really just depends how the control improves pan out. Beckham is at worst a #3, at best a #2 or ace. It's almost go time...

5. Jose Schneider, OF, CINOS20, A- health and monster power. Schneider is going to cause problems for NL pitching for a long long time. Perennial MVP contender

4. Orlando Miller, SP, NYNOS22, C/A, Miller could be an ace if he gets some velocity improves. Could be a B-/A+ SP in a few years

3. Rick DeMiller, OF, MINOS20 and tons of power. Bad health and defense but stick him at 1B and let him mash...should be a B+/A+ guy.

2.Ed Alley, OF, NYNOS21, bad health, good everything else. Super elite PVR, he should make a run at 500 HR and better be chasing some MVPs if he can stay healthy. I believe he is the best hitting prospect in the league

1.Bill Smith, SP, BROOS18. What can you say about an 18 year old B overall SP. He better be an ace! A-/C+ and tons of time. BRO is hoping he gets to A+/B+ or better

Awesome job, although I would have Giebel rated higher than you have him. I think he was B-/B- to start and he is probably on track to be A/A.

You are the man Chris! Thanks!

Thought my young hitters might have made it. 19OS catcher A/B- from right side and maybe the 20OS SS B/B- from right side with B/B defense
