Oscar Gamble, the late Yankee slugger, was so much more than just hair

As a native New Yorker, who first became a baseball fan during the Yankees' run in the 1970's, Oscar Gamble's contributions and impact will always be memorable to me!

The hair was legendary, and he was the namesake of the most notorious league in SD history. For those that don't know (and it's a shame that we can no longer access those old message boards), the league was basically banned by the previous site Admin. Not an owner...the league itself!!!

The OGL was one of a kind.

The short version of it is that the OGL owners negotiated to be the first (and only) league not subject to the site rules. Absolutely anything was allowed. People used the league to push the limits of the game, such as try to see how few players a team could contain and still function, or how many pitchers could be gotten into the field at once. It was useful to keep shenanigans contained, and it also helped to some extent to find bugs as everyone pushed the edges of the engine. It was also the only league to have female player cards available (they still exist but no other league has ever requested them).

Alas, the members got bored wreaking havoc in one league and basically started rampaging through the message boards. After a few members got banned, the remainder planned a massive act of civil disobedience and got the whole league shut down and most of the remaining members banned.

The members retreated to a separate forum where they plotted revenge, which turned into just lots of insults against Tyson , which turned into (oddly) a half-complete design for a biplane game site, before everyone just drifted apart.

That league was 90% forum shenanigans, 10% game. It was definitely something else.
